Sandusky
Wants to Run
Sandusky, the winner of the Lake Division of the Sandusky Bay
Conference, will entertain Lima Senior, in a sectional final in division I
on Friday night.
Lima Senior (14-9) downed Mansfield Madison, out of the Ohio Cardinal
Conference, (60-41) on Tuesday night in a semifinal.
Coach DeMar Moore says this is not your typical sectional opponent.
“Lima Senior is really good. I
think this year our district is a bear.
I mean there's no easy wins. They're
really good, they're athletic, they play hard, they can shoot it, and they
can defend, so it'll be a big matchup for us,” said Moore.
Sandusky (21-1), #3 in the final Swankonsports.com boys’ basketball
coaches poll in the large school division, has suffered only one loss and
that was to Toledo Whitmer (84-71) on December 29.
Moore says Lima Senior compares favorably to Whitmer.
“They're very, very similar to Whitmer.
In fact, they took Whitmer to overtime.
Whitmer got them by two I believe,” he told Swankonsports.com on
Wednesday night, “They're a really good team though.
They play a really tough schedule and their record doesn’t really
mean anything. They're really
good.”
Moore says there are a lot of things they are going to have to do
well if they are going to win. “Well,
like always, we have to defend, we have to force the tempo with our defense,
let our defense create our offense, and things like.
We also have to keep them out of the paint, contest their threes and
rebound and run,” he said. Published 2/29/24 © Swankonsports.com Don’t miss a special “Out of Bounds” This Saturday night 10 PM to 11 PM Your

Needs to Get Better on Defense
Sandusky, the “SBC” Lake Division champion, wraps us the regular
season at Norwalk against the Truckers in a division game on Friday night.
On Tuesday, they downed Ashland (78-59) in a non conference game.
Coach DeMar Moore says again it was a fourth quarter surge that led
to the win for the Streaks. “I
thought Ashland was a really good team.
They played us tough. They're
really scrappy and they were shooting the ball really well.
The fourth quarter, we kind of came alive defensively and was able to
put together a string of stops and kind of going on a run and to finish it
off,” he said.
Sandusky (20-1,9-0), #3 in the Swankonsports.com boys’ basketball
coaches poll in the large school division, plays at Norwalk (12-9,3-6) on
Friday night in division action. The
Truckers fell to Perkins (56-47) in their last division game last Friday.
The Blue Streaks beat them (74-66) on January 23 in their first
meeting.
Moore says the Truckers will be a challenge.
“The Lake Division is a really tough league and anybody can beat
anybody on any given night. We
have to come out and play our game and really compete because this is their
last game of the regular season and a chance to knock us off and that would
give us a loss in the league would be big for them.
For us it's like if we win (Friday) night we'll be undefeated in the
conference and that hasn't been done since they put together the three
divisions in the “SBC,” said Moore.
The Streaks have been very good, but Moore says they can be even
better, especially on defense. “We
have to get a lot better defensively. I
haven't pleased with our on ball defense lately.
We've been giving up a lot of straight line drives to the basket.
It seems like every game we give one player on the other team 20
points,” he told Swankoonsports.com on Thursday night, “I would like for
us to be better defensively and kind of shut down the top five from each
team and things like that. So,
there's a lot of work for us to do and it's mainly on the defensive end.
I think if we can handle our business on that side of the ball, I
think we'll be fine.” Published 2/23/24 © Swankonsports.com Don’t miss a special “Out of Bounds” This Saturday night 10 PM to 11 PM Your

Feeling Good
Sandusky, the champion of the Lake Division of the Sandusky Bay
Conference, will host Bellevue in a division game on Friday night.
They claimed the outright title with (81-73) win over Clyde on Friday
night.
Coach DeMar Moore says that’s a goal and it puts a smile on
everyone’s face. “Most
definitely, it's always nice to be able to win your conference outright, so
that that's always a great thing,” said Moore.
Sandusky (17-1,8-0), #1 in the Swankonsports.com boys’ basketball
coaches poll in the large school division, has Bellevue (16-4,4-4) on Friday
night. The Redmen lost (41-40)
to Perkins in a league game last Friday.
They beat Ontario (54-51) in a non-conference game on Tuesday.
Moore says Bellevue has some pieces.
“Bellevue is tough, they're long, they always play as well and
they've been shooting well as of late. They're
a good team and I think they're finally starting to come together,” he
told Swankonsports.com on Wednesday night.
Sandusky beat Bellevue (64-53) on January 4.
Moore says the Redmen play good defense.
“They're long and they get out and contest everything.
The Hartley kid is just as athletic as a lot of our kids, so they're
good and it will be a good game,” said Moore. Published 2/15/2024 © Swankonsports.com “Out of Bounds” every Friday night 10 to

Sandusky
to Play Healthy Clyde
Sandusky can lay claim to an outright title in the Lake Division of
Sandusky Bay Conference with a win at home against Clyde on Friday night.
Coach DeMar Moore says they want to take care of things on Friday
night. “Most definitely, it's
always a good thing that we can cut the nets down at home, so that's
definitely our goal for Friday night,” said Moore.
Sandusky got a big non-conference win last Saturday night at Toledo
Scott, winning (68-59) in overtime.
Moore says they had to work hard to get it.
“Toledo Scott is a really good team.
They fought us tooth and nail to the finish and we were able to get
them in overtime, so it was a good game,” he said.
Sandusky (15-1,7-0), #3 in the Swankonsports.com boys’ basketball
coaches poll in the large school division, plays host to Clyde (5-13,1-6),
but winners of their last three in a row, including (52-45) Lake Division
win over Norwalk last Friday.
The Blue Streaks won the first (61-51) on December 22 at Clyde.
Moore says the Fliers are healthy now.
“They're really, really good. The
first time we played they were down four starters,” he told
Swankonsports.com on Tuesday night, “They got all those guys back and
Olson has been playing really well. So,
it's going to be a great game.” Published 2/07/2024 © Swankonsports.com “Out of Bounds” every Friday night 10 to

Sandusky
Has to Get on Break
Sandusky can claim no less than a share of the title in the Lake
Division of the Sandusky Bay Conference on Friday night with a win at rival
Sandusky Perkins.
The Blue Streaks hold a three game lead on four different teams in
Bellevue, Norwalk, Perkins and Tiffin Columbian.
Those four are all good teams, who have been beating each other, but
nobody has beaten Sandusky, the defending champion, in a league game.
On Tuesday night, Sandusky went to Mansfield Madison and won a
non-conference game (69-60) pulling away late.
Coach DeMar Moore says they finally got it going in the fourth
quarter. “I thought Tuesday
night was a real testament of our character.
On the road Tuesday night, an hour and a half away from home and not
much of a crowd. Our guys came
out and played pretty well for the most part,” he told Swankonsports.com
on Thursday night, “We struggled for the first half and the game was
pretty close and in that fourth quarter we kind of turned it on a little bit
defensively and ended up pulling away.”
Moore says Perkins is really starting to play well.
“They have got a bunch of athletic guys that can really play the
game. They had some success in
football, which carried over into basketball season.
Like expected, they got off to a slow start and I think now they
found their stride and they're playing pretty well right now,” said Moore.
Perkins has been the closest to beating Sandusky in a league game
this year when they fell (77-75) back on December 16.
Moore says Friday night they have to their fast break going and get
some easy ones. “I think we
just have to be really solid defensively and get on the glass and rebound.
Limit them to one shot and push and try to get as much out of
transition as much as possible,” he said. Published 2/02/24 © Swankonsports.com Our scoreboard updated every five minutes On

Plays Two Lake Games
Sandusky, the leader in the Lake Division of the Sandusky Bay
Conference, faces two division games this week at home against Norwalk on
Tuesday night and at Tiffin Columbian on Thursday night.
The Blue Streaks have had a great season, but they have only played
10 games so far this year.
Coach DeMar Moore says they are going to be busy for the next few
weeks. “We have got a bunch of
games in this next two or three week stretch.
We go (Tuesday), we go Thursday, then we go again Saturday and then a
couple games next week,” he told Swankonsports.com on Monday night,
“It's a busy week for us. Unfortunately,
we weren’t able to practice last week due to the weather, but I think the
time that we got in since the cancellations till now I think was pretty
good. We had some really good
practices and the guys are anxious to get back in, so I'm excited to see
what we do.”
Sandusky (9-1,4-0), #3 in the Swankonsports.com boys’ basketball
coaches poll in the large school division, plays a home against Norwalk
(8-5,3-2) on Tuesday night. This
game was supposed to be played last Friday, but was cancelled due to the
weather.
Moore calls Norwalk dangerous. “I
think they're one of the most underrated teams in our league. I
think they can beat anybody on any given night.
They were up 12 on Willard late and Willard is pretty good team.
So, they're good, they have got a lot of size and they have got some
guys that can shoot it. They’re
just a well balanced team,” he said.
Tiffin Columbian (8-5,3-2) lost (51-50) to Perkins in a division game
on Monday. Sandusky just beat
them (66-63) last Thursday.
Moore says games at Columbian are always tough.
“Playing in Tiffin is always tough and they play really well at
home, especially against us. It'll
be a fun game for us. A little
adversity for our kids going there and have to battle with their student
section, who's usually pretty lively. So,
it'll be fun. It's just another
league game in the Lake Division like every night it is a battle,” said
Moore. Published 1/23/2024 © Swankonsports.com “Out of Bounds” every Friday night 10 to

Sandusky
Wants it Quick
Sandusky, the leader in the Lake Division of the Sandusky Bay
Conference, will entertain Norwalk in a division game on Friday night.
On Saturday, the Blue Streaks (9-1,4-0) took sole possession of the
division lead when edged Tiffin Columbian (66-63) at the “Big House.”
Coach DeMar Moore says down five with two minutes left they just
never gave up. “It was a hard
fought game, we knew that coming in. Our
guys, they just played through the buzzer and we're able to come up with
some big plays towards the end of the game there and finish it off,” he
said.
Norwalk (8-4,3-2) beat Bellevue last Friday (44-39) to stay alive in
the division race.
Moore says they the personnel to give the Blue Streaks some problems.
“They're big and we watched him play against Bellevue and they're
big, they have got some athleticism to handle ball well.
It'll be a challenge,” he told Swankonsports.com on Thursday night,
“They have got some size and you know one of our problems, our struggles,
is rebounding and they have got some guys that can really rebound with
Rottaar and those guys.”
Moore says they don’t want a half court game with the Truckers.
He says they would prefer a track meet.
“We like the pressure to ball, so we're looking to get out and get
after their guards and things like that. Kind of speed up the game and
hopefully force some turnovers and get our offense going that way,” said
Moore. Published 1/19/24 © Swankonsports.com Our scoreboard updated every five minutes On

Co-Leaders
Sandusky and Columbian to Battle
Sandusky and Tiffin Columbian are the co-leaders of the Lake Division
of the Sandusky Bay Conference and they lock horns on the Saturday night at
the “Big House” at Sandusky High School.
The Blue Streaks (8-1,3-0), #2 in the Swankonsports.com boys
basketball coaches poll in the large school division, beat Willard (66-64)
on Tuesday night.
Coach DeMar Moore says they knew it was going to be a war.
“It was everything we expected.
We knew coming in that it was going to be a hostile environment
there. They were ranked in the
state and they're really good team with Max Dawson and Cam Robinson.
We knew we just had to fight for 32 minutes in order to come out on
top,” he said.
Tiffin Columbian (8-3,3-0) beat Rossford (61-35) in a non-conference
game on Tuesday night.
Moore says the Tornadoes are always going to be prepared.
“They're a well coached team. I
mean Travis (Kinn) does a great job with those guys and he makes sure
they're always prepared and they come out and they play hard every night.
When you have that kind of thing you win you know what I mean,” he
told Swankonsports.com on Wednesday night, “Travis is a great coach and he
coaches the kids up and makes sure they do everything he asks.
They're bought in and when you when you run into a team like that you
never know what can happen.”
Moore says the Streaks have to force turnovers and they must rebound
better than they have. “Like
always I think our intensity and defense pressure is the number one thing.
Create some offense from our defense and rebound.
We haven't been doing a really good job of rebounding and keeping
other teams off the boards. So,
we have to make sure we're boxing now and keeping them off the boards and
limiting them to one shot and things like that,” said Moore. Published 1/11/2024 © Swankonsports.com “Out of Bounds” every Friday night 10 to

Sandusky
Plays Bellevue
Sandusky, the co-leader in the Lake Division of the Sandusky Bay
Conference, plays at Bellevue, a game back, in a division game on Thursday
night.
The Blue Streaks are unbeaten in division play and they lost just
their first game overall on the season to Toledo Whitmer (84-71) in the
finals of the “Streakball Classic” at Sandusky last Friday.
Coach DeMar Moore says they were too selfish last week.
“We learned that it takes a team to beat good teams.
We have to play together and play as one in order to beat really good
teams,” he told Swankonsports.com on Wednesday evening, “Sometimes, we
tend to get away with some mistakes we make throughout the game and end up
winning the game, but against good teams you have to play together and be
one.”
Sandusky (6-1,2-0), #2 in the Swankonsports.com boys’ basketball
coaches poll in the large school division, is at Bellevue (7-1,2-1) on
Thursday night. The Redmen
downed Norwalk (48-39) in a league game last Friday.
Moore says the Redmen do a lot of things well.
“They're well-rounded, they got a little bit of everything, they
can go inside, they can go outside, they can shoot it really well, they
defend like crazy. It should be
a very, very interesting matchup, a great defensive matchup,” said Moore.
Winning a tough league game on the road is kind of like stealing and
Moore says that is hard to do at Bellevue.
“It's always great to win a road game.
Going to Bellevue is a very, very tough place to play.
We’ve been fortunate to win the last couple of years, but I mean
historically it's been very tough place for us to play,” he said. Published 1/04/2024 © Swankonsports.com “Out of Bounds” every Friday night 10 to

Sandusky
Hosts Streakball Classic
Sandusky, again one of the best basketball teams in North Central
Ohio, will host its own Streakball Classic on Thursday and Friday.
The Blue Streaks (5-0,2-0), #2 in the Swankonsports.com boys’
basketball coaches poll in the large school division, beat Clyde (61-51) in
a Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division game last Friday.
Coach DeMar Moore says they really didn’t get started until the
third quarter of the game. “It
was a great game. We learned a
lot about ourselves in that game. We
started the game off playing really, really and selfish.
In third quarter we came out and played together and we started to
play well, which led to us being able to play some different guys in the
fourth quarter,” said Moore.
Moore says with the teams involved it should be a fun two days at the
Big House. “With the teams
that we have got coming in. We
have got some pretty good teams coming in with Detroit Country Day, Toledo
Whitmer and Lorian,” he said.
Sandusky plays Detroit Country Day on Thursday and Moore admits they
don’t know a lot about them. “We
don't know much. We know what we
have seen on Max Preps and that's really about it.
We kind of got like a roster with some of the sizes and things like,
but we are yet to see them play,” he told Swankonsports.com on Wednesday
night, “We haven't really had a chance to scout them, so it's kind of just
go out and roll the ball out and play.” Published 12/28/23 © Swankonsports.com “Out of Bounds” every Friday night 10 to

Ready to go Again
Sandusky, the defending champion in the Lake Division of the Sandusky
Bay Conference, plays over at Clyde in a division game on Friday night.
They got their defense started with a (77-75) win over Perkins last
Saturday night.
Blue Streaks coach DeMar Moore says it was just a typical
Sandusky-Perkins game. “Yeah,
it was definitely a dog fight. When
we played Perkins you throw the records and the scouting reports out the
window and just let the kids play it out.
We went down to the wire and kids had enough resilience to pull it
out,” said Moore.
Sandusky went to the division II regional last season, but they are
counting on some younger players this season and Moore says last week were a
good way to mature. “We
definitely grew up a lot that that game.
We have got a lot of juniors, so anytime we can get a tough one like
that it's always good for our team,” he said.
Sandusky (4-0,1-0), #2 in the first Swankonsports.com boys’
basketball coaches poll in the large school division, plays at Clyde
(1-3,0-1) on Friday night. The
Fliers lost (58-46) to Norwalk in their division opener last Friday.
Moore says playing at Clyde is never easy for them.
“Clyde is tough. I mean
every time we play there it's a tough game,” he told Swankonsports.com on
Tuesday night, “That's really one of the toughest places to play in our
league. I think it's always a
battle when we go there, so it should be a very tough game.” Published 12/20/23 © Swankonsports.com “Out of Bounds” every Friday night 10 to

Plays Rival Perkins
Sandusky is the defending champion in the Lake Division of the
Sandusky Bay Conference and they tip-off defense of that title on Saturday
night when they host rival Sandusky Perkins.
On Wednesday night, they beat Toledo Bowsher (81-76) in a non-league
game.
Coach DeMar Moore says they had to scratch and claw to get it.
“It was a dog fight, it as a dog fight, they came to play and they
gave us everything they had and fortunately we were able to hold them off in
the end there and come out with the win,” he said.
Sandusky (3-0) plays at home against Perkins (0-1), who is just
getting their season started after a long football run.
They lost (65-58) to Willard last Saturday in their game.
Moore says the Pirates are going to be a big time challenge for them.
“We know them because we see them their our cross town rival, but
we don't know much about him. They
had one game against Willard Saturday night and they we're fresh out of
their football season,” he told Swankonsports.com on Thursday night, “We
watched a little bit of that, but you throw all the stats and all the
scouting reports and all that stuff out the window when it comes to Perkins
because they're going to definitely come to play.”
Moore says Perkins is going to be athletic and they always play them
tough. “I mean anytime we play
against them it's a good game. I
mean they give us their best shot, we give them our best shot.
We kind of just get after each other,” he said. Published 12/15/23 © Swankonsports.com Our scoreboard updated every five minutes On

Expects Battle With Mansfield
Sandusky, last year’s division II district champ, hosts Mansfield
Senior in a non-conference game on Saturday night at The Big House.
The Blue Streaks (1-0) opened the season last week with a (76-63) win
over Elyria.
Coach DeMar Moore says it was a decent start to the season.
“We played pretty well for the most part.
We didn't go very deep just because we had a very inexperienced team
and it was a pretty tough game. Elyria
is a tough team, but we were able to pull it through,” said Moore.
Moore says they need to clean up all aspects of their game before
they play the Tygers, especially their rebounding.
“Just the all around game, especially rebounding.
We don't have much size, so we really appreciate for our guys to
attack the boards and just to be able to get after them defensively and
guard man to man full court and things like that,” he said.
Mansfield Senior opens the season on Friday night against Ashland in
Ohio Cardinal Conference play.
Moore says it should be a very good test for them.
“I expect a dog fight. We
had two tough battles against them last year.
We beat them in the in the districts last year also,” he told
Swankonsports.com on Wednesday night, “I know they'll be ready to play and

Sandusky
Healthy; Ready to Go
Sandusky, the defending champion of the Lake Division of the Sandusky
Bay Conference, opens the season Saturday night against Elyria in one of the
games in the DiFranco Memorial Classic at Midview High School.
Coach DeMar Moore says they finally have their whole team together
and they are ready to go. “Our
guys are working really, really hard. We
have a few key players that are just coming back from injury.
So, you get those guys back and it really helps a lot.
They've been working hard, so I mean that’s all I can ask for,”
said Moore.
Moore says Saturday will kind of be hard to predict due to the lack
of consistent personnel during the preseason.
“We haven't had a scrimmage yet with our full team, so this is the
first week we've had our full team back,” he told Swankonsports.com on
Thursday evening, “It'll be really interesting to see how we respond to
the to the bright lights on Saturday night.”
The Blue Streaks have a large junior class, some of which played
roles on a team that won the division II district championship last season.
Moore says Elyria will feature a strong lineup.
He says that they try to run a lot of the same things as the Streaks.
“They're tough, they have got a kid in Jayden Crutcher, who I think
he's been offered by Youngstown State and some other D1 colleges.
So, they're a really solid team.
They're a lot like us, they like to get up and down, so it should be
a real fun game,” said Moore. Published 12/01/23 © Swankonsports.com Our scoreboard updated every five minutes On Friday night at www.swankonsportshosting247.com |

Sandusky
Reloading
Sandusky last season won the Lake Division of the Sandusky Bay
Conference and reached the regional semifinals on division II and this
season it looks like they are poised to have another very good season.
However, coach DeMar Moore says they are going to be short on
experience early in the season. “We
have a younger group actually. We
have got two guys that started last year back and then we have got two guys
that that came off the bench for us last year, but other than that we're
inexperienced, we don't have much varsity experience,” said Moore.
Moore says the kids are doing a lot of good things and especially
likes the attitude that they are showing when the are in practice or in
scrimmages. “I'm very, very
pleased where we are right now. The
group we have, they're very coachable, they play really hard and they want
to get better, so anything we tell them like they're willing to try and
willing to do it. They're very
easy to coach, which is a good thing,” he said.
With some very good players graduated, Moore says they are trying to
figure out who plays where and what players should be on the floor.
“It's funny you said that. We
had a scrimmage (Tuesday) night on the bus ride back I was talking to one of
my assistants and I said we have all the pieces to the puzzle we just have
to figure out how to put it together,” he told Swankonsports.com on

Lutheran
West Rolls Over Sandusky
It was simple, Lutheran West beat Sandusky at their own game on
Thursday night and they smoked the Blue Streaks (71-55) in a division II
regional semifinal at Bowling Green State University’s Stroh Center.
After taking an (8-7) lead on a dunk by Junior Kambomba 4:56 to play
in the first quarter, the Longhorns never trailed again.
Coach Jordan Duke says they were able to defeat the first trap by
Streaks and they were able then execute their stuff.
“We were going to attack their pressure.
They do a really good job pressuring you.
They do a really good job of making you play uncomfortable and making
you play the game that they want to play.
Our kids did a good job of making sure we were fundamental and make
the passes that we needed to make to try to get into our runs,” he told
Swankonsports.com after the win, “We knew that if we could get past their
initial pressure, we could have our runs that we like to go on ourselves.
I think we like to play fast and in transition as well and I think
once we were able to break their initial pressure, we were able to kind of
play how we like to play. We
knew that going in and we tried to make sure that we were effective and just
beat their initial pressure. We
did a decent job of making sure that we attacked them and didn't play timid
or scared you know passing the ball and trying to you know wait and see
what's going on we just had an attack mindset.”
Lutheran West was better in every way, they shot 56%, Sandusky shot
40%, they made 7-13 threes (54%), the Blue Streaks were 5-18 (28%), second
chance points they owned (19-11) advantage, they did have one more turnover
than Sandusky, but they only had 17, which a lot lower than must of the Blue
Streaks opponents.
They also lead in total rebounding (36-24), which is something
Sandusky coach DeMar Moore focused on in his postgame remarks.
“It was very frustrating. We
just for whatever reason we just couldn't get a rebound, we couldn't make a
shot, we couldn't get a stop and credit to the Lutheran West.
“That's a good team. They
did what they needed to do to win and we didn't. I
mean we just didn't play well at all,” said Moore.
As they were building their lead in the first half, Lutheran West
made six of seven threes and Moore says a lot of those came off of offensive
rebounds. “The majority of
those threes came off of offensive rebounds.
We couldn't get a rebound to save our life and they capitalized every
time they got and offensive rebound. I
think in the first half for sure that they knocked down the three.
You give a team like that that many wide open shots they're going to
capitalize,” he said.
Lutheran West has a two 6’6” sophomore brothers Matthew and
Joshua Meyer that combined for 12 rebounds and altered a lot of shots
inside.
Moore says because they were unable to get rebounds like they are
used to, they couldn’t get their transition game going either.
“They have a nice sized team and they controlled the glass.
When you do that I mean it really slows us down because we're a
smaller team and we like to get out and go and when we can't do that then
that hurts,” he said.
Lutheran West guard Jayson Lewis was the game MVP.
He had 26 points and eight rebounds.
Sandusky was led by sophomore Jason Henlon with 14 and All-District
selection Daylen Green with 11.
Now, Sandusky never gave up in the game, that was clear all night.
They did score the last six points on the first quarter to close to
(20-15) after one. A field goal,
a free throw, and three all by Green cut it (23-21) 5:07 to play in the
half, but the Longhorns went on an (16-3) run to make it (39-24) with 1:18
to play until the intermission.
Moore says maybe the bright lights of a regional tournament were a
little too bright for them because they have too many turnovers at critical
times. “I think we cut it to
two and then it went back up to like 10 like instantly.
I think we turned the ball over more (Thursday) night than we have in
the last five games,” he told Swankonsports.com, “I mean it's just we
picked the wrong time to lay an egg. I
mean I don't know if the lights were too bright for some of us.
I mean it is what it is and we learn from it.
We look forward to next year. I
mean our seniors completely changed the culture of our program.
I can't speak more highly of those three guys (Green, Moore, and Garr)
and they battled (Thursday) night, but it wasn't enough.” Published 3/10/22 © Swankonsports.com Your First Source For All Things Sports “Out of Bounds” every Friday From 10 to

Sandusky
Ready for Lutheran West
Sandusky, on a 20-game winning streak, meets Rocky River Lutheran
West in a regional semifinal in division II on Thursday night at the Stroh
Center at Bowling Green State University.
The winner will play either Rossford or Van Wert Saturday afternoon
for a berth in the state tournament.
Sandusky coach DeMar Moore says the makeup of Lutheran West (22-3) is
very similar to the Blue Streaks. “They
are a lot like us there. They
don't have a ton of size, but they like to play fast and they kind of get
after it defensively,” said Moore.
Moore says their goals are pretty much what they have been all year
long. “Hopefully we can impose
our will on them and get them sped them up a little bit and force turnovers
and capitalize off of that,” he said.
Now, of course, the Stroh Center has must more of an arena feel to it
than a high school gym would have and sometimes that can lead to shooting
woes because of depth perception issues.
However, Moore does not see that as a problem.
“No, not at all. Earlier
in the year, we played Willard up in at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland
and that was kind of in preparation for the opportunity that we would have
if we would reach the regionals to play on that bigger stage.
So, I think our guys are prepared and they're excited and ready to
go,” said Moore.
When you reach this level of the tournament there is a lot of
excitement around the school and the community and it can be easy to lose
your focus. Moore says the
coaching staff has worked hard to make sure that doesn’t happen.
“When you get this far I think you get a lot of people who are
excited, especially around the community and in the school and things like.
You kind of get a bunch of people that want to join the process to
kind of jump on the bandwagon and it's easy to easy to get distracted,” he
told Swankonsports.com on Wednesday, “With our coaching staff we've had we
have four regional semifinals appearance between us as coaches and we won
zero. So, we've been able to
share that experience and tell some things that we thought that would help.
Things that we wish we would have done back in the day and things
like that. So, I think our guys
are set and they're ready to go.” Published 3/09/22 © Swankonsports.com Your First Source For All Things Sports “Out of Bounds” every Friday From 10 to

Relentless
Sandusky Beats Lex for District Title
Sandusky forced 31 turnovers and scored 29 points off of those and
outlasted Lexington (75-67) to win a division II district title on Saturday
afternoon at Ashland High School.
They just seemed to be relentless with their pressure and coach DeMar
Moore says that is how the Blue Streaks (24-1) have been playing all year.
“That is our “Streak Ball” moto to create offense with our
defense and put pressure on teams and make them uncomfortable as much as we
can,” he said.
Sandusky never trailed in the fourth quarter.
They were paced by senior guard Daylen Green, who tallied 34 points,
seven rebounds and three assists on the afternoon.
He ways 12-23 from the field and 3-9 on threes.
Lexington (20-5) had the early advantage in the game, leading (12-9)
with 3:10 go in the first quarter after a Joe Caudill basket, but the
Streaks would outscore them (12-5) the remainder of the quarter, nine of
those points coming from Green.
Hudson Moore gave the Minutemen a (26-21) lead with 6:41 left in the
half with a goal. A three by
DeMar Moore, the son of the coach, with 1:39 left gave the Streaks a (33-32)
advantage. Green’s 35-foot
three at the horn made it Sandusky 38, Lexington 37 at the half.
The third quarter featured seven lead changes and five ties.
The Streaks were on top (54-53) after 24 minutes of play.
Another key three by Green opened the scoring in the final stanza,
making it (57-53) Sandusky with 7:37 remaining, but the Minuteman wouldn’t
go away. They got as close as
one-point (61-60) after two free throws by freshman Brayden Foggle with 4:09
on the clock, but the Streaks spread the floor and made 8-10 free throws
down the stretch to seal the win.
Lexington coach Scott Hamilton says they were right in the game for
most of the way, but especially in the second half they made some lazy
passes against the Sandusky pressure and it cost them.
“I think at the half we had registered 20 turnovers and they've
banked in a three and they had a 35 footer to be up by one.
So, we're telling the guys when they come to trap there's a lot of
openings, look to attack. We
don't need hero passes, just make the right pass and then keep moving it
they're out of position,” he told Swankonsports.com after the game, “I
think in the second half, we got a little timid trying to make those lazy
passes or lofting passes and they picked off a couple.
We discussed the idea that the turnovers that led directly to points
and they scored 29 points off our turnovers.
So, that was something that we knew was how they played and we knew
that we had to control that. I
mean first and foremost, hats off to them they're the number one seeded team
in the district, there's a reason for that you know, they've won 20 straight
now and they're a very good team.” Sandusky, the
outright champion of the Lake Division of the Sandusky Bay Conference, was
the number one seed in the district, but Hamilton says they made them hold
their breath. “I thought
we had them nervous, we had it right down to the wire.
I thought we had opportunities, but we just let it get away.
Free throws we didn't knock down when we needed to, couple of
possessions we were in good position I thought we got the ball where we
needed to a couple of times, just couldn't get it in. We
didn't get our normal second chance points, they rebound so well, but we
were really focused on getting back on the defensive side.
So, my guys played hard. I
think we took it right down to the end and like I said we had the number one
team in the district, number four team in the state shaking a little bit.
So, my guys played with their hearts and I’m proud of them,” said
Hamilton. Green and Moore
where first team all-district 6 selections Jason Henlon was honorable
mention. Moore finished with 12
points and six assists and Henlon added 17 markers for the Streaks.
Moore established a single season record for assists at Sandusky with
more than 200 for the year.
Coach Moore calls his backcourt the best in the state.
“Daylon had a great game (Saturday).
He provided us with the spark we needed when we needed it.
He was relentless offensively at the end with 34 points, but like I
said at the beginning of the year, and I'm still saying it to this day, we
have the best back court in Ohio. We
just don't have the eyes on us, so everybody can see it, but I'll take my
backcourt against any backcourt in the state,” said Moore. Lexington, with
a significant height advantage, won the battle of the boards 45-34, Foggle
had nine and Elijah Hudson had eight, but Sandusky created some chaos in the
lane and Moore thought they held their own in there.
“I thought we did a good job of keeping the game at a fast pace
that and if we can do that they can't settle in and just pound the ball
inside. We were able to kind of
keep the game going and they kind of struggled to keep it up,” he said. Foggle led
Lexington with 27 points. Forup,
saddled with foul trouble in the first half, had 13. With only 48
hours to get ready for Sandusky, Hamilton felt his guys did a nice job
executing their game plan. “I
mean this is the most exciting time of the year, but it can also be
heartbreaking you know when you experience this.
So, I thought the guys did a nice job and they battled.
Two days to prepare for a team like this and I thought the guys did a
nice job with the plan. They're
probably a little bit better than what film lets you let you see.
They get after it and they're hungry for that ball.
You watch the game and you say boy that was lucky that the ball you
know fell into his hand, but they make their luck. I
mean they just worked their tails off and they make it happen and like I
said hats off to them, but I'm not taking anything away from my guy's
efforts (Saturday), that's for sure,” said Hamilton. Sandusky, who
will played Lutheran West in the regional semifinals, shot just 36% as a
team (28-77) and they were 3-10 on threes, but Moore thought if they missed
a shot or gave up a layup they did a good job moving on to the next play.
“It’s next play mentality, you can’t get that play back, once
it's over it's over, you have got to move on. If
we worry about what happened a few seconds ago, we'll miss out on the next
play. So, we have had a next
play mentality all year, have a short memory, we see something going wrong,
bounce back and on to the next play,” said Moore. Published 3/04/23 © Swankonsports.com |

Sandusky
Outscores Mansfield Senior
It was a game of spurts, but Sandusky spurted more and they beat
Mansfield Senior (84-75) in a division II district semifinal at Ashland High
School on Thursday night.
They will play Lexington, who beat Shelby (76-74) in overtime to win
Thursday night’s second game, on Saturday afternoon in the district final.
Sandusky coach DeMar Moore says the game was just like he thought it
would be. “It was what we
expected, a fast paced game, high scoring game, both teams battled, both
teams gutted, just a good game,” he said.
The Tygers (17-8) raced to (13-2) lead in the game’s first four
minutes, seven of those points coming from Kyevi Roane, but Sandusky found
their game and battled back to tie the game at (19-19) after the first eight
minutes, Blue Streak guards Daylen Green and Jason Henlon both had six
points during that (17-6) run by the Streaks.
Meanwhile, the second quarter was close and competitive throughout
with neither team leading by more than four points.
There were nine lead changes and a tie during those eight minutes
with Sandusky leading (39-35) at the half.
Sandusky (23-1) built their first sizeable lead in the third quarter,
going up 10 at (53-43) after a Chayce Garr three with 3:29 to play in the
third.
Moore says they just wanted to continue to play with energy.
“We just told them to stick to what we do and be who we are and
continue to attack to continue to be aggressive,” he told
Swankonsports.com after the game, “Hopefully, they'll wear them out.
We didn't know what we were going to get as far as their
conditioning, but we just wanted to keep going, keep going, keep going and
then I think late in the second half they started to wear down a little
bit.”
In the third quarter, the Tygers put together another (9-2) run to
get it to (55-52) with a 1:00 left in the third on a Duke Reese hoop and
Sandusky held onto a (56-52) advantage after three periods.
A (15-6) Blue Streak run to start the fourth quarter, as six
different players scored for Sandusky, plus and 7-11 free throws in the
final 2:00 gave the Streaks the win.
Mansfield Senior coach Marquis Sykes was happy with the effort, but
says his kids didn’t execute well enough for 32 minutes.
“We didn’t stick to the game plan enough.
Our biggest keys were, we wanted to cut down on dribble penetration
and we didn’t do a great job of that.
We wanted to slow them down some in transition and didn’t do a
great job of that either. We
wanted to make sure we shot well from the free throw line.
I haven’t seen the stat sheet yet.
We just didn’t execute our game plan well enough,” he told
Swankonsports.com, “We played hard, we played with a lot of passion, a lot
of energy, a lot of effort. It
just wasn’t quite good enough against the number one seed.
We have got to play better and we didn’t.”
The Tygers shot 50% for the game (31-62), but only made (1-11)
threes. They made only 12 of 23
free throws.
Sykes says they couldn’t maintain the way they started the game.
“They kind of got into the flow of the game and I think they may
have wore us down a little bit even though I think they were wore down too.
Like I said, just didn't make just enough plays on either end of the
floor. We gave up too many
straight line drives to the basket and gave up way too many offensive
rebounds and few too many turnovers,” he said.
Both teams like to pressure and force turnovers, but Thursday night,
Sandusky scored 24 points off turnovers to just nine for the Tygers.
Offensive rebounds were a little tighter with the Blue Streaks
gabbing 24 and Mansfield had 21 for the night.
Sandusky featured balanced scoring Green had 21, Garr 20, Henlon 19
and DeMar Moore, the son of the coach, 13.
It seemed Garr in particular had a number of baskets at key times and
coach Moore says they count on that from him.
“Chayce is always solid, whether he's making shots or not he always
does the right thing and makes the right plays and things like that.
I mean he's one of our senior leaders, we count on him, he's a
captain, so I mean it’s just expected of him,” said Moore.
Roane had 22 for the Tygers, while Reese and Ja’Ontay O’Bryant
both chipped in with 12.
It would be expected that the Blue Streaks would try to execute the
same game plan against Lexington. “I
mean that's where we hang our hat on our defense and our transition game,”
said Moore. Published 3/03/23 © Swankonsports.com There will be a special “Out of Bounds” Saturday from 10 to 11 PM First Source for All Things Sports |

Sandusky
Has to Play Compete Game
Sandusky, the “SBC” Lake Division champ, plays Mansfield Senior,
of the Ohio Cardinal Conference, in a division II district semifinal at
Ashland High School on Thursday night.
The Blue Streaks (22-1) own an 18-game winning streak.
They beat Sandusky Perkins (67-60) in a sectional final at Bucyrus
last Friday night.
Coach DeMar Moore says they were able to build a solid lead in the
first half with some good play. “Last
Friday, we were able to hit some shots early and we were able to get some
pressure defensively early and get out to that big lead. I
think we were up like 17 at halftime,” he told Swankonsports.com, “We
were able to gain quite a lead at halftime and they made a run the second
half, but we were able to hang on and finish it off.”
Mansfield Senior (16-7) has won eight of its last 10, including a
(64-59) win over Bellevue in a the sectional final.
Sandusky won a regular season game (79-74) at Mansfield on February
4.
Moore says the Tygers will be in their face.
“I think we'll see little bit of everything.
I mean last time we played them they're big, they're fast, they're
athletic, they got after us quite a bit defensively last game.
They even showed like some 1-2-2.
They are just a good team. I
mean they hit shots, make plays when they need to be made so, it will be a
fun game,” said Moore.
Moore predicts nobody is going to take the air out of the ball.
“The last time I think we both scored like 75 points so it was a
high scoring game. I think
anytime we meet up with Mansfield is always a high intensity, high energy,
fast type of game, so we're looking forward to it, it should be a lot of
fun,” he said.
Moore says there are three simple goals to winning the game.
“I think we have got to take care of the ball number one, number
two. we got to keep them off the boards, and number three, just have to hit
shots,” he said. Published 3/02/23 © Swankonsports.com There will be a special “Out of Bounds” Saturday from 10 to 11 PM First Source for All Things Sports |

Sandusky
Wants to Create With Defense
Sandusky, the champion of the Lake Division of the Sandusky Bay
Conference, plays rival Sandusky Perkins on Friday night at Bucyrus High
School in a sectional final in division II.
The Blue Streaks (21-1), #1 in the final Swankonsports.com boys’
basketball coaches poll in the large school division, have not lost a game
in almost three months.
However, coach DeMar Moore knows if they aren’t at their best the
postseason could end quickly. “You
lose a game and your season is over. So,
it's a lot of pressure,” he told Swankonsports.com on Thursday night,
“We've talked about it. We
have got some really good seniors who don't want their season to end, so
it'll be interesting to see how we come out (Friday).”
Perkins (15-8) beat Vermilion (64-58) in a semifinal on Wednesday
night. They have won their five
in a row.
Moore says they have definitely found what they are good at doing.
“That's a really good team. They've
found their identity, they've been very aggressive, they've been getting up
and down pressing teams and things like that.
So, it's a very good team, so we'll see how things go,” said Moore.
Now, the last time these two teams played back on February 3 was the
night the Blue Streaks wrapped up the Lake Division title, but they had to
hang on an win (85-83) over the Pirates.
Friday night, Moore says they want to be able to use their defense to
ignite their offense, something they have been doing all season.
“That's a big part of our game plan. We
definitely want to use our defense to create our offense (Friday).
We think we can force them into situations to make them uncomfortable
and things like that, so we're just looking forward to competing and seeing
how it goes,” said Moore. Published 2/24/23 © Swankonsports.com There will be a special “Out of Bounds” Saturday from 10 to 11 PM First Source for All Things Sports |

Sandusky
Expects Battle Form Norwalk
Sandusky, already the outright winner in the Lake Division of the
Sandusky Bay Conference, plays at Norwalk in a division game on Friday
night.
They claimed the outright title with an (85-83) win over Sandusky
Perkins in a division game last Friday.
Coach DeMar Moore says that was a goal to win the title and they will
cherish it. “One of our goals
at the start of the season was to win the conference championship and we
wanted to do it outright, by ourselves, without having to share it and we
accomplished that, so I couldn't be more happier for our guys,” said
Moore.
Sandusky (18-1,10-1) plays at Norwalk (9-10,4-6) in division game on
Friday night. The Truckers beat
Vermilion (49-46) in a Lake Division game last Friday.
They lost to Mansfield Madison (62-57) in a non-conference game last
Saturday.
Sandusky won the first meeting (64-60) December 28 at the “Big
House.”
Moore expects a battle. “Norwalk
is a very, very good team. They
played us to like a four point game last time if I'm not mistaken. I
think they held us to like one of our lowest scoring games of the season.
They're well coached, coach (Adam) Kreischer is doing a great job
with those guys and they have some talent over there, so it'll be a good
game (Friday) night,” he said.
Tempo is a factor here. Moore
says they want they game to be faster than it was last time.
“I think we average like 78, 79 points a game.
So, definitely it would be in our favor if we can get it to be a
faster paced game, but I think we're prepared to play any style,” he told
Swankonsports.com on Thursday evening, “We practice because we know never
what you’re going to see with the different teams in our league and so
forth. We practice every style,
so we'll be prepared for whatever they throw at us.”
Norwalk is known for running a lot of set plays on offense.
Moore says they will have to be ready to defend them.
“They are probably one of the better teams in our league as far as
execution goes. They run their
stuff and they'll move the ball until they get the shot they want, so we
just have to be disciplined and not gamble and things like that, just be
solid on defense,” said Moore. Published 2/10/23 © Swankonsports.com Score updates every 5 minutes on Friday and

Sandusky
can a Piece of Lake Division Title
Sandusky, the “SBC” Lake Division leader, can earn a share of the
division title on Friday if they can beat Perkins at home in a division
game.
They travel to Mansfield Senior for a possible district preview on
Saturday night.
They picked up another win Tuesday night by downing Oberlin (79-43)
in a non-conference game.
Coach DeMar Moore says they had good energy and that isn’t always
the case with a Tuesday night game. “For
a Tuesday night game, I thought we played really well. We had a lot of
energy. We came out with a lot
of intensity and I just thought for it being a Tuesday night, I thought we
really came out and competed really well,” said Moore.
Sandusky (16-1,9-1), #1 in the Swankonsports.com boys’ basketball
coaches poll in the large school division, plays host to rival Perkins at
the “The Big House” on Friday night.
The first time they played on January 4 it was (91-82) Blue Streaks
and Moore says it is going to be the same kind of game because both squads
like to get out on the fast break. “We
we've adopted the model of “Streak Ball” based off our style of play.
We like to play fast and things like that,” he told
Swankonsports.com on Thursday evening, “They've adopted the model of, I
think, it is “Pirate Express”, so they like to play the same way.
It should be a fun game. We're
crosstown rivals, all the kids grew up together, they live in each other's
backyard, so it'll be a fun game.”
Moore says they are looking forward to doing some celebrating on
Friday night. “We're looking
forward to that hopefully we could we could get the win and cut down some
nets on Friday night,” he said.
The Blue Streaks head south for a matchup with Mansfield Senior, out
of the Ohio Cardinal Conference on Saturday night.
Moore says this a team that has many of the same strengths as they
do. “Mansfield has always been
a tough opponent for us and mainly because we play the similar style. That
should be another fun game. It
should be a fast-paced game, up and down game, and again we're looking
forward to it,” said Moore. Published 2/03/23 © Swankonsports.com Score updates every 5 minutes on Friday and

Looking to Force Mistakes
Sandusky, the leader in the Lake Division of the Sandusky Bay
Conference, takes it’s act to Clyde to play the Fliers in a divison game
on Thursday night.
They maintained a one game lead on Bellevue in the conference
standings and knocked Tiffin Columbian two behind by beating the Tornadoes
(84-61) in a division game on Friday night.
Coach DeMar Moore says they were aggressive and forced Tiffin into
taking some tough shots. “Colombian
is a really good team. Our focus
was just come to come out and play hard, be aggressive and let the chips
fall where they may. Fortunately
we were able to get after them early and forced them into a bunch of
turnovers in the second half and our team played very, very unselfishly I
think we had like 20 some assists as a team,” said Moore.
Columbian is the only team to beat Sandusky this season, (58-53) on
December 15.
Moore says they didn’t let them have many open shots this time.
“We forced them to take tough shots.
You give them open looks that nine times out of 10 they knock them
down. So, we just forced them
into tough shots, make them play uncomfortable and fortunately our shots
were falling,” he said.
Sandusky (13-1,8-1), #1 in the Swankonsports.com boys’ basketball
coaches poll in the large school division, makes the trip to Clyde
(2-13,1-7), who won its first division game on Friday night (65-47) over
Vermilion, on Thursday night.
The Blue Streaks won the first meeting (78-70) on December 17.
Moore says they aren’t taking anything for granted.
“The first time we played Clyde I think we're up like 25 at one
point and they cut it to four. We
had a lot of JV players in at the time, but I mean nevertheless they cut it
to four,” he told Swankonsports.com on Monday evening, “Playing that
Clyde is very, very tough, so we just look to come out aggressively and just
impose our will on them and hopefully force them to make them some
mistakes.” Published 1/24/23 © Swankonsports.com “Out of Bounds” after Friday night games

Defense
Leads to Offense for Sandusky
Sandusky, in first place in the Lake Division of the Sandusky Bay
Conference, plays over at Vermilion on Friday night in division action.
The Blue Streaks (10-1,6-1), #3 in the Swankonsports.com boys’
basketball coaches poll in the large school division, took over sole
possession of the division lead with a (73-45) crushing of Bellevue on
Tuesday night.
Coach DeMar Moore says defense was the difference for them.
“We were really locked in defensively. We
made it really tough for Bellevue and our defense created our offense and we
were able to kind of run out on them a little bit,” he told
Swankonsports.com on Thursday evening.
The concept of defense leading to offense is a lot of what the Blue
Streaks are about, according to Moore. “I
mean that's our motto. We go by,
we call it “Streakball”. We
just look to pressure teams and force them to make decisions and do things
they're not comfortable doing and that kind of leads to our offense,” said
Moore.
Sandusky is at Vermilion (5-8,2-4) on Friday night.
The Sailors lost to Perkins (65-56) in a Lake division game, but
rebounded to beat Edison (57-48) in a crossover game on Saturday.
Moore says they want to get out on their fastbreak on Friday night
and run the floor. “They're
very well coached, coach (Kurt) Habermehl does a very good job with those
guys. They play extremely hard
they get up and down the floor. They
have never been a team to zone us. We
look forward to the up and down pace,” he said. Published 1/13/22 © Swankonsports.com Score updates every 5 minutes on Friday and

Blue
Streaks Have to Avoid Turnovers
Sandusky, in a share of second place in the Lake Division of the
Sandusky Bay Conference, plays at Sandusky Perkins in a division game on
Wednesday night.
Last week, the streaks blew out Willard (102-64) in an “SBC”
crossover played at Quicken Loans Arena and also beat Norwalk (64-60) in a
division game.
Coach DeMar Moore says against Willard they shot they ball very well.
“Last week was a really good week for us we got two victories.
The game against Willard we just shot the ball extremely well.
I believe we hit seven or eight threes that game.
It was crazy, we just shot extremely well.
Against Norwalk, not so much. It
was kind of a struggle. They
switched up defense on us quite a bit, tried to slow us down and take us out
of our game plan, but we were able to maintain it and pull it out,” said
Moore.
Sandusky (7-1,4-1), #4 in the Swankonsports.com boys’ basketball
coaches poll in the large school division, goes to Perkins (5-2,1-2) on
Wednesday night. The Pirates
beat Bay (71-70) as part of the “Jingle Bell Jam” last Friday.
Moore says they have a deep bench and they are going to come after
them. “They're very, very
talented and (Kochendoerfer) is a great coach.
He did some really great things over at Margaretta and he's at
Perkins now. He has those guys
playing really hard and they play fast, they fly around and they have the
personnel to do it there. I
think they go about eight or nine deep, so they are very, very good this
year,” he said.
On Wednesday night, Moore says they have to make their defensive
pressure effective and they need to rebound the ball too.
“I think one of the keys would be taking care of the ball.
We have to take care of the ball offensively and not give them a lot
of opportunities and also rebound to end their possessions,” he told
Swankonsports.com on Tuesday evening, “We kind of struggled a bit against
Norwalk in finishing the possessions when they shoot, so we have to gang
rebound it and keep them off the boards as much as possible.
I think if we stay solid on defense and force them into some
turnovers, I think we'll be fine.” Published 1/04/23 © Swankonsports.com “Out of Bounds” after Friday night games

Sandusky
Wants to be Aggressive
Sandusky plays at Tiffin Columbian in a huge early season game in the
Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division on Thursday night.
These two were the preseason favorites in the division.
The Blue Streaks smoked Vermilion (90-47) in a division game last
Friday.
They have won all of their games so far and coach DeMar Moore says
their defense has been leading the way when it comes to their success.
“Well, number one is, first and foremost, our defense.
We've been playing extremely good defense over the first four games. I
think we've averaged somewhere near forcing like 23, 24 turnovers a game.
I have to say that's probably the number one thing,” he told
Swankonsports.com on Tuesday evening, “Two, I think I think our kids are
bought in. They're working their
butts off. They're believing in
what we're what we're preaching and everything and the ball is just dropping
and following our way.”
Sandusky (4-0,2-0), #2 in the Swankonsports.com boys’ basketball
coaches poll in the large school division, plays at Tiffin Columbian
(4-0,1-0), #3 in our first poll of the season, on Thursday night.
Tiffin rocked a couple of non-league opponents in Upper Sandusky
(72-36) and Fremont Ross (76-43) last week.
Moore looks for a battle on Thursday.
“We going to get a very, very good team. Colombian
it's always tough, they all they always play us tough. They're
very, very talented from top to bottom.
(Logan) Beaston, his stats, his numbers for his career speaks for
itself. Then they have a couple
other guys that that are very good players.
They always play us tough whether it's at home or whether it's in
Tiffin and they always play us tough,” said Moore.
Beaston averages 18 points and four assists per game.
Moore says they need to contain him and make some of the other
Tornadoes beat them. “I think
we'll have to try our best to slow down Beaston, whatever that entails.
He does a lot for their team.
I think if we can slow him down a little bit it'll help us.
Make some other guys do some things that they're not comfortable or
used to doing. I think
just being aggressive and playing our game,” he said. Published 12/14/22 © Swankonsports.com “Out of Bounds” after Friday night games

Point
of Attack is Key for Sandusky
Sandusky entertains Clyde in a game in the Lake Division of the
Sandusky Bay Conference on Friday night.
The Blue Streaks (3-4,1-1) stopped a four game losing streak with a
(26-13) win over Norwalk in division play last week.
Coach Mike Franklin says it was a good performance by his kids.
“We played really well,” he told Swankonsports.com on Wednesday,
“We got a little soft there at the end, there is no doubt about that.
We talk about those things and we try and shore those things up after
the game. Coming off our losing
streak, we can’t complain about how we played.”
Clyde (5-2,1-1), #4 in the Swankonsports.com football coaches poll in
the large school division, held off Tiffin Columbian (42-39) in a Lake
Division game last Friday. Running
back Michael Daniels had 207 yards and three TD’s for the Fliers.
Franklin says Clyde makes you defend a lot of things.
“They are very balanced on offense.
They are going to keep you off balance as far as running and throwing
the football. We have to be
prepared for that. Their
defensive line is very impressive. We
have to be able to move the football and keep the clock on our time,” said
Franklin.
Clyde quarterback Jaden Cook is second in the division in touchdown
passes this season.
Franklin says the game will be won and lost up front.
“You have to be disciplined and you have to be consistent.
So, that is what we have been working on all week going through all
of the sets that they do. It is
really going to come down to the offensive and defensive line and big
plays,” he said. Published 10/07/21 © Swankonsports.com For the latest in local sports Go to the listen line at the top of the page |

Defense Key for Sandusky
Sandusky plays at home Friday night against Akron St. Vincent/St.
Mary in a non-conference high school football game.
It was a very tough loss for the Blue Streaks last week, as they
scored in the final minute, went for two, and didn’t get it in a (17-16)
loss to Parma Padua.
Coach Mike Franklin says they blew too many chances.
“We did not play a very good first half at all, but we came out and
were very successful in the second half.
The team wanted to go for two, we went for two, and didn’t win in
the end. It was very
disappointing,” he told Swankonsports.com on Tuesday, “We were in the
red zone multiple times. We had
a field goal blocked, fourth and goal at the one, so there is a lot of stuff
we are going to have to build on.”
St. Vincent/St. Mary (2-2) drilled Wooster, of the Ohio Cardinal
Conference, (42-10) in a game last week, rushing for nearly 400 yards in the
process. Franklin says
they have to compete up front to have a chance.
“They are very impressive on their offensive and defensive lines.
We are going to have to control their run game and at the same time
we are going to have to put up points,” he said. The Irish are
big in trenches and look to run the ball a lot, but Franklin says they can
pass it too. “If my average we
6’3” and 290 up front, I would do the exact same thing and there is no
doubt about that, so that obviously posses a problem.
They will run it and then all of the sudden they will bring that
quarterback out and run their receivers.
So, they are very dynamic. Their
2-2 record doesn’t say what they are all about,” said Franklin. Published 9/15/21 © Swankonsports.com On Friday nights log onto our scoreboard At www.swankonsportshosting247.com

Needs to Look Ahead
Sandusky is on the road for the third time in four weeks as they play
at Parma Padua in a non-conference game on Friday night.
They are coming off their first loss of the season (47-18) to Fremont
Ross last week.
Coach Mike Franklin says they gave up too many big plays early in the
game. “First of all, they are
a very good football team and we can’t take anything away from them.
We were there for a bit and they just made a lot of big plays.
Their quarterback makes things happen,” he told Swankonsports.com
on Thursday, “He has a tremendous arm.
When we had a breakdown in the defensive backfield it cost us.
Then we were just trying to play catchup from there.”
Padua (2-1) smoked Akron Firestone (34-6) last week.
Sandusky beat them (20-14) in 2019.
Franklin says the Bruins are going to look to throw the football a
lot against them. “They are
very similar to what they were two years ago.
They are very stout up front, they have a lot of young skilled kids,
and the quarterback likes to throw the football.
We have our work cut out for us,” said Franklin.
After the loss last week, Franklin says they want to get off on the
right foot on Friday. “They
last time we were up there we didn’t score I don’t think unto the fourth
quarter. Our guys will be hungry
there is not doubt about that. It’s
a lesson they have got to learn. We
have a heck of a schedule and we have to keep griding through it and this is
just the next step,” he said. Published 9/10/21 © Swankonsports.com On Friday nights log onto our scoreboard At www.swankonsportshosting247.com

Sandusky
Tangles With Fremont Ross
Sandusky plays at longtime rival Fremont Ross in a non-conference
football game on Friday night.
The Blue Streaks (2-0) dominated Lorain (36-6) last week.
So far this season, their varsity defense has not allowed a score and
coach Mike Franklin says right now that defense is their backbone.
“I think we continued to play great defense.
That is the most important thing at this point for us is we are
playing pretty good defense. As
far as Lorain is concerned, they are kind of rebuilding, they did not play
football last year,” he told Swankonsports.com on Monday, “I can’t
imagine what it is like to coach a football team that did not play last
year. As I told our team they
were going to get exponentially better because they had not played football
and they were much improved from week one.”
Ross (2-0) also has two good wins converting a two point attempt in
the final seconds to beat Tiffin Columbian in their first game (37-36) and
then handling Toledo Start (34-6) last week.
Franklin says they are an improved team.
“They are much improved too. We
played them the last game of the year and were able to come out victorious.
They have gotten better and we have gotten better.
They are also going to have a tremendous display for Charles Woodson,
who is going to have statue put up and so forth.
So, there is going to be lots of motivation for their football
team,” he said.
Woodson, a Fremont Ross grad, is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Franklin says while they respect his legacy, they can’t allow this
to be a distraction for them. “You
have to respect Charles as a football player.
That is another thing we have to be careful of.
You don’t get to meet a gold jacket every day, so you respect what
Charles has done, but it can’t be a distraction to point where you are not
focused,” he said. Published 8/31/21 © Swankonsports.com Your First Source For All Things Sports “Out of Bounds” every Friday From 10 to

Sandusky
Keeps Momentum
Friday night it is Sandusky’s home opener as they host the Lorain
Titans in non-conference play.
Last week, they dominated Holland Springfield (45-0) in their lid
lifter for the year.
Coach Mike Franklin says going back to last year they have now won
four in a row. “It was a great
start for us coming off what we accomplished last year.
We kept are winning ways going. I
know we only won three games, but they were the last three games of the
year, so we kept it going. Our
guys understand the expectations that are put forth.
It is a great way to start the season,” he said.
Franklin says their defense helped them put points on the board last
week against Springfield. “We
scored 14 on defense. We are
trying to get our defense to score more to be honest.
Actually, we should have scored another one.
We had on called back on penalty, but we scored on offense on that
one. We are trying to flip our
offense to defense and see if that works out better.
At the end of the day, our guys executed what they needed to and got
us a little bit of confidence going into this week,” said Franklin.
Lorain, which did not play any football at all last year due to COVID,
lost (50-6) last week to Olmsted Falls.
Franklin says he expects the Titans to be much improved this week.
“They did not have a season last year.
You always get better from week one to week two and I think with them
it is going to be expediential form week one to week two just because they
didn’t play. They also played
Olmstead Falls, which everybody knows is one of the top tear teams in
division II,” he told Swankonsports.com on Wednesday evening, “So, you
can’t look at the score, but you can look at what they have done
offensively and defensively with respect to their defense being really fast,
blitzing, confusing us and offensively very quick and explosive.” Published 8/26/21 © Swankonsports.com Your First Source For All Things Sports “Out of Bounds” every Friday From 10 to

Sandusky
Begins the Season With High Hopes
In their Friday night season opener, Sandusky travels to Holland
Springfield to face the Blue Devils in non-conference play.
After the crazy 2020 season, coach Mike Franklin says they are much
more prepared and the are eager to get started.
“These guys are in a much different mindset than they were last
year,” he told Swankonsports.com on Thursday, “Things are definitely
back to normal for guys on the football field and the coaches.
We are looking forward to getting after it.
We are very happy with where we are after the first couple of weeks
of practice.”
Holland Springfield is in Lucas County near Toledo.
Franklin says this a big team with some physical backs.
“We saw them the other night. They
are bigger than us and have big running backs, very good in the skilled
positions, so we have our work cut out for us,” he said.
Tackling is very important in any game and Franklin says they are
going to find out how good at tackling they are right now on Friday night.
“Tackling is something I think at the very beginning of the year
you don’t know where some of your kids are.
You go through practices and scrimmages, but once the lights are
turned on on a Friday night it becomes a little different,” said Franklin. Published 8/20/21 © Swankonsports.com On Friday nights log onto our scoreboard At www.swankonsportshosting247.com

Sandusky
With Talented Senior Class
Sandusky is counting on a big and talented senior class to carry them
through the rough Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division this year.
Coach Mike Franklin says with the unlimited days they had this
summer, they feel they are going to be ready for the season to start next
week, even with the shorter preseason. “I
really hasn’t affected us that much because we had unlimited coaching
throughout the summer. When you
put that in perspective you try not to burn the kids out.
You try to get the kids around as much as you can to compete with
other schools. As much as you
want to go back to the traditional, I think it is a good concept just
because you can prepare more in the summer.
It will be interesting to see what the state does next year,” said
Franklin.
Franklin has a strong group of seniors this year and he feels the
Blue Streaks are going to be tested by their schedule.
“We have 14 seniors. We
have a really good bunch. When
you put your schedules together, you do it al least two years in advance,”
he told Swankonsports.com on Wednesday, “You look ahead at the players you
have coming up through the program and you try and make the schedule as
competitive as possible and that’s what we did this year as we have done
that last three or four years because we know we have good kids coming
through the program and we want to compete against the best.
So, we are very excited about our seniors.”
Sandusky opens the season at Holland Springfield on August 20,
followed by two more non-conference games against Lorain and Fremont Ross.
Franklin says one thing about this year is it good to be back to
normal and concerned about football related things.
“I don’t want to talk about masks, but it is great to be back out
there. Kids are kids again and
coaches are coaches again. It
just feels like it was two years ago. It
is a much better scenario for all of us involved,” he said. Published 8/12/21 © Swankonsports.com Your First Source For All Things Sports “Out of Bounds” every Friday From 10 to

Sandusky
Needs to be Able to Run it
Sandusky goes in search of some success on Friday night as they are
at Norton for a first round playoff game in division III.
The Blue Streaks, who have enjoyed quite a bit of success in recent
seasons, including a trip to the regional final last year, have struggled
with youth and injures this season and will be looking for their first win
on Friday.
Coach Mike Franklin says it seems they take a step forward and then
two steps back. “There are
glimpses. Every time we have
something go forward, we kind of go backwards.
What we are focused on right now is stopping them on third down.
After we get to third down for some reason we can’t pass that
river. So, that is one of the
biggest points right now is when we get to third down can we stop them,”
he told Swankonsports.com on Thursday night, “Offensively, we have been
down a little bit was far as we lost our quarterback and we had another one
fill in and he is doing a great job as far as throwing the football and
running the football. So, we are
positive.”
Franklin says hey have get off the field on third down so they can
get their offense the ball. “We
have a few guys going both ways. We
have gotten better as far as third down is concerned.
The money down is the money down and we have been busting tails to
try get the guys to understand we have got to get off the field because we
can be explosive on offense,” he said.
Norton (1-5) has lost its last four, including a (42-0) loss to
unbeaten Streetsboro last week.
Franklin says the Panthers are going to try and run it right at them.
“Norton is going to be physical.
I would kind of put them in the same style as Clyde and Bellevue.
I assume they are going to line up and they are going to try and run
the ball right down us. On
defense, they are going to sit back and they are going to try and wait and
think we are going to make a mistake. So,
we need to run the football the best we can as we did last week and make
sure we don’t turn the ball over,” said Franklin. Published 10/09/20 © Swankonsports.com Keep up to the minute on Friday night scores Updated every five minutes beginning at

Meets Rival Perkins
Sandusky takes the bus, or maybe they walk the short distance, to
Perkins for a game in the Lake Division of the Sandusky Bay Conference on
Friday night.
Between them they have only won one game this year, but there is
still going to be some intensity in this one.
Last week, the Blue Streaks (0-5,0-4) lost to division leader
Bellevue (38-7) in a Lake Division game.
Coach Mike Franklin says the Redmen were as good as advertised.
“They are a heck of a football team and we knew we couldn’t make
any mistakes and they didn’t and we did.
They did what they normally do,” he told Swankonsports.com on
Thursday night, “What was better was the quarterback threw the ball very
well and our defensive backfield is not as good as it should be.
Give credit to Bellevue and I would be very surprised if they are not
in there for a fight for a state championship.”
Perkins (1-4,0-4) lost (42-7) to Tiffin Columbian in a division game
last week.
Franklin says they have some athletes.
“They are getting better. They
are young, very similar to us. The
quarterback runs the ball very well and has gotten better throwing the
football. We have to be able to
contain him. Their defense is
big and strong. I figure a 1-4
versus an 0-5 team to be a battle since we are only .4 miles away from each
other,” said Franklin.
It has not been a good season for either when it comes to wins and
losses, but Franklin says this is still a game that means a lot to both
sides. “Not only for the kids,
but the adults. A lot of adults
grew up in Sandusky and moved over to Perkins.
There is a lot that goes into this football game as it always has,”
he said. Published 10/02/20 © Swankonsports.com Keep up to the minute on Friday night scores Updated every five minutes beginning at

Sandusky
Needs to Get Over the Hump
Sandusky is the only thing that stands in the way of no less than a
share of the Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division title for the Bellevue
Redmen as they meet on Friday night in Sandusky.
Sandusky (0-4,0-3) is getting better this year, but they still
don’t have a win. They lost
(34-27) to Clyde in a division game last week.
Coach Mike Franklin says they just couldn’t get over the top last
week. “We are young and we are
trying to get better. In our
league, there are a lot of teams trying to do the same thing.
We had our chances. We
were up twice in the game. We
fought hard back. We just need
to get over the hump. We need a
win. I think if we get a win, we
can get things going again,” said Franklin.
The goal is improvement, but Franklin says the kids need to see that
there is a reward for their hard work. “You
can only tell the kids we are getting better so many times, eventually we
need to see we are getting better. We
need to get over that hump and we have a tough one this week,” he said.
Bellevue (4-0,3-0), #1 in the Swankonsports.com football coaches poll
in the large school division, beat Tiffin Columbian (20-13) last week and
stands all alone in first place in the division standings.
Franklin calls the Redmen physical and he is concerned they will wear
them down. “They are very
strong, very physical, every time we have played them since I have been
here, they are the same way. Coach
Nasonti does a great job over there as always and they are very physical,”
he told Swankonsports.com on Tuesday, “We have several guys going both
ways. We are just concerned if
we can’t get some momentum early and they are able to wear us down towards
the fourth quarter, that would be our biggest concern at the moment.”
Quarterback Keegan Ray has been a huge part of the Bellevue running
game the last two weeks and Franklin says he is a tough back.
“He is a physical runner. He
carries it over 40 times a game. His
average isn’t impressive. It’s
a little under five yards, but if you take three times four that’s 12
yards. What they do is they
grind our that clock on you and they keep your offense off the field.
They have done that for years. Coach
Nasonti just keeps finding another one to keep doing what they are doing,”
said Franklin. Published 9/23/20 © Swankonsports.com Click the listen line to hear our live shows “Out of Bounds” 10 to midnight on Friday “Sports Saturday” 10 AM to 1 PM on

Sandusky Working at Being Better Sandusky working at putting a whole game together as they prepare to host the Norwalk Truckers in a Lake Division game in the Sandusky Bay Conference on Friday night. Coach Mike Franklin felt they improved in a (41-14) loss to Tiffin Columbian last week. He says they improved in all phases of the game. “We did see improvement. The score wasn’t indictive of what really happened in the game. They were definitely the better team that night, I am not going to say any different. We go better in a lot of phases, but we are not good enough to make the mistakes we are making right now in all phases,” said Franklin. Norwalk (0-2,0-1) lost their Lake Division opener too. Bellevue beat them (20-6) last Friday. Franklin says they have some pieces that add up to a good team. “They are going to keep getting better like every team. They have an incredible quarterback and one of the best kickers, that is probably the best show on Friday night is their kicker, one of the best kickers in the country. So, anytime they cross the 50-yard line it could be three points,” he said. Norwalk kicker Garrison Smith is a tremendous talent and Franklin says he impacts the game in a lot of ways. “Defensively, we need to keep them on that side of the 50. The big thing is to work on field goal and extra point block. We got one last week and we almost had two. So, we have to put some pressure on him,” he told Swankonsports.com on Tuesday, “Also when kicks off, he has the ability to kick the ball, spread the ball wherever he wants if he doesn’t want to put the ball in the end zone. He has the ability to punt the ball as far and as high as he wants. It is really fascinating to watch him play.” Published 9/10/20 © Swankonsports.com Click the listen line to hear our live shows “Out of Bounds” 10 to midnight on Friday “Sports Saturday” 10 AM to 1 PM on Saturday |

Sandusky Dealing With Youth Sandusky opens play in the Lake Division of the Sandusky Bay Conference with a visit to Tiffin to play the Columbian Tornadoes on Friday night. The Blue Streaks, young and inexperienced in a lot of spots, lost (28-13) to Edison in a crossover game last week. Coach Mike Franklin says it was the first experience for a lot of their kids and Edison executes very well. “They did a great job with what they do. We are very young and for us it was like a first scrimmage,” he told Swankonsports.com on Wednesday night, “You sort through your roster and you determine things you did good and things you did bad or didn’t do well. Nothing against Edison they did a great job.” Franklin says they must get better in the trenches if they are going to be a very good team this year. He says they are still finding out who can play. “We know for sure we have to solidify our offensive and defensive lines, there is no doubt about that. We knew that was going to be an issue coming in and we are slowly trying to work through that. Other than that, we are trying to put the guys in the right position being so young,” he said. Tiffin Columbian, who shared the Lake Division title with Norwalk last year, a game in front of Sandusky, beat Port Clinton (31-7) in their crossover game last week. Franklin says they have some young kids that can play and against them you have to handle the blitz. “They do what they do as far as they have in the past. They have two young quarterbacks that are really good. They have a freshman and a sophomore, so they move those guys in and out. They are doing a great job throwing and running the football. Defensively, they are blitz crazy. You have to find a way to offset that,” said Franklin. Sandusky Faces Edison and the Triple Option Sandusky opens the season on Friday night as the Blue Streaks host Edison in a crossover game in the Sandusky Bay Conference. It will be the first meeting, at least for a long time, for the two schools on the football field. Sandusky coach Mike Franklin says although they did not scrimmage last weekend, he feels his kids are in good position to put their best foot forward on Friday night. “We were unable to scrimmage this year and Edison scrimmaged. In this time of the year, in this concept, I think it is more about the kids and the kids being safe. I talked to Edison’s coach and coach Hall is a great guy and we exchanged concepts that we are going to be doing against each other so we can get lined up properly,” he told Swankonsports.com on Tuesday night, “So, kids aren’t put out of place in a situation on the football field. Kids need to be prepared when they play a game. I think that is one of the things coach Hall and I wanted to make sure occurred.” Edison is one the few programs in this part of the state to still run the triple option offense. Franklin says this is something totally different for them to prepare for. “This is definitely not an offense that we see, not very often. Perkins did it several years ago, but this is not something we normally have to prepare for. Our guys understand that you have to be assignment sound. Know exactly what your role is, especially with the triple option. It has been a battle,” said Franklin. When you play Edison, on defense, you have to be fundamentally sound. Franklin says it is assignment football for sure. “You have to have the fullback, you have to have the wing that is in motion, you have to have the quarterback. There are several people to account for not to mention they are always good up front. They have a history of being good up front offensive line wise,” he said. Sandusky Going in Blind Sandusky will be one the football teams that will not be able to scrimmage this week in preparation for the high school season and next week they play Edison and their triple option offense. Coach Mike Franklin says it feels good to get the chance to get on the field. “It’s great to get the guys out there. They have been waiting a longtime. A lot of these kids weren’t able to play spring sports. For them to get back out there. I’m sure the communities want to see it. As long as everybody stays safe, I think we are going to have an interesting season,” he said. Franklin says it is going to be important for coaches to make sure kids are following the protocols and staying out of trouble off the field. “It is going to be on us as coaches and players and everybody on the sidelines and obviously those in the stands. I am very confident all of the coaches throughout the state are going to do a great job because we want the kids to be out there, we want to be out there, so we will do whatever we can to make sure we can play football as long as were safe,” he said. Like for everyone else it has been a very different preseason for Sandusky and Franklin says their goal is constant improvement. “It’s so different. Normally, we have two or three scrimmages. Ourselves we are not going to be able to scrimmage this year. We feel confident we have some kids coming back that we are very excited about. It will be interesting. Everybody makes the playoffs, but you don’t want to thrive on that. Our motto as coaches is we want to get better week by week, so we are prepared by week seven,” said Franklin. Edison runs a very unique offense with a lot of faking and Franklin says it is something they never see. “I talked to coach (Hall) (Thursday) because we are not scrimmaging and they are scrimmaging. We are not going to exchange films. So, we wanted to make sure we talked and got the basics about what they are going to do and they get the basics of what we do. I know they are a totally different offense than we ever see at any time,” he told Swankonsports.com on Thursday evening, “We had a great conversation. It was a great conversation and we look forward to the challenge.” Published 8/21/20 © Swankonsports.com Click the listen line to hear our live shows “Out of Bounds” 10 to midnight on Friday “Sports Saturday” 10 AM to 1 PM on Saturday |

Sandusky Has to Contain Big Play Last week, Sandusky got their revenge on Norwalk by beating the Truckers in a second round playoff game. They have a chance to do the same thing Friday night when they meet Mansfield Senior in division III regional final at Clyde High School. The Blue Streaks ran for 403 yards, 250 by running back Terion Stewart, in beating Norwalk (31-15) at the Bellevue Athletic Field. Coach Mike Franklin says they were really on top of their game. “I thought we played really well. The guys obviously were very enthused. We got beat by them last year in the regional finals and it has kind of been setting on us all year. They beat us at their place. Our kids came out and played really well, really in all phases,” said Franklin. Sandusky has not had quarterback Shonsai Aaron since the second week of the season and he will not play on Friday night. Other than that, Franklin says they are pretty healthy. “Obviously, we miss our senior quarterback, there is no doubt about that, but at this point I think we are pretty healthy. All teams are a little banged up when you have played 12 straight weeks. Knock on wood I think we about has healthy as we can be at the moment,” he said. Mansfield Senior beat Sandusky (21-14) in a regular season game back on September 27. Franklin believes that both teams have gotten better since then. “They played a tremendous game. Since then you always kind of judge where teams are compared to where they were. They have continued to grow and become a better football team as we have and that is how you get teams to this level. We definitely have our work cut out. They are a great football team. We are busting our tails to figure it out,” said Franklin. Both teams have big play kind of offenses. Franklin says they must at least contain the Tygers, especially Angelo Grose, who lit them out the first time they played. “We gave up big plays. We gave up three big plays and it is tough not to give them up to one of the better football players in the State of Ohio. He is so great on both sides of the ball,” he told Swankonsports.com on Tuesday, “They have so many other weapons they can utilize on the offensive side. A tremendous quarterback, a tremendous running back, big offensive line, speed on both sides. Coach Bradley and I were in a meeting (Monday) night for the north-south game. How many shutouts? Four or five shutouts this year. What a heck of a defense.” In big games between evenly matched teams it can boil down to turnovers and Franklin says he believes special teams will be a big factor too. “A lot of underlying issues whether it be turnovers or special teams. When you turn the ball over it’s huge, it’s momentum in high school football. Kids thrive off of momentum. So, there is no doubt about that, but you have to take into consideration special teams. We ran a fake punt the other night and I really think it turned the whole game around. So, special teams are huge just as much as turnovers,” said Franklin. Sandusky Plays Norwalk for Fourth Time over Two Years Friday night, the Sandusky Blue Streaks clash with “SBC” Lake Division foe Norwalk for the fourth time over the last two years, this time in the division III regional semifinal at the Bellevue Athletic Field. Unfortunately for the Steaks, Norwalk has won the previous three, including (37-20) earlier this year, as well as (52-35) last year during the regular season and (20-17) in last year’s D-3 regional final. Last week, the Blue Streaks (8-3) held on to beat Medina Buckeye (20-14) in a first round game. Coach Mike Franklin says they made a huge fourth down stand late in the contest to hold on. “I can’t give enough credit to our guys up front. They were able to move the ball. Their quarterback can run the ball really well. They have a running back that can run the ball really well. Our guys had a huge stand. It reminded me of the game against Bay last year when our guys really made a difference on the defensive side,” he said. Super Sandusky running back Terion Stewart, hampered by injuries this season, ran for 275 yards and two TD’s last week. Franklin says he was a workhorse. “He had the most carries that he has had all season. We have a special one with us. I had a funny text before the game saying, ride the horse and it was from one of his family members. You have to, he is that good. We also have other guys in the running back position that can help us, so it gives us a dynamic look,” he said. Norwalk (9-2) stuffed Cleveland Glenville (22-2) last week to open the playoffs. Truckers running back Evan Stumpf had 341 yards in Norwalk’s regular season win over Sandusky this year. Franklin says they have to do a better job of containing the run game. “The last game we played the obviously ran the ball really well. Their number 21 ran the ball very effectively and we didn’t tackle well. So, we are going to make adjustments to try and stop that. They switched to a new defense last week,” he told Swankonsports.com on Monday, “So, they are similar to us in that we use different offenses every week and they use different defenses. It should be an interesting football game to see how we match up. We have to be able to throw and run the football with multiple people and stop their run game.” Franklin says you are likely going to see some new things from both teams come Friday night. “Once you get in the playoffs you have done what you have done for so many weeks. Not only does it get boring for the kids, it gets boring for the coaches. You always want to do things to keep the kids involved and excited about what you are going to do each week. That is kind of what we have done for the last few years and we think it has been successful so far,” said Franklin. Sandusky Must Contain Medina Buckeye Run Sandusky travels to Medina Buckeye for a first round playoff game in division three on Friday night. The Blue Streaks advanced to the regional finals last year before losing to “SBC” Lake Division rival Norwalk. They ended the regular season last week with a (49-14) win over rival Sandusky Perkins. Coach Mike Franklin says say they played well and it has given them some confidence. “You want to go in with a little momentum. We able to get some guys in and run some new schemes against not a bad Perkins team. We were really able to get some things done offensively and defensively. We are going into the playoffs I think in a pretty positive manner,” he said. Sandusky has won four playoff games over the last two years and Franklin says his kids know what to expect in the postseason. “I thought we did a good job last year and prior years. They understand what the atmosphere is going to be like. We started off on the road last year. We played pretty well on the road to begin the second season last year. That’s the same goal that we have this year,” said Franklin. The Blue Streaks (7-3) visit Medina Buckeye (8-2) for a regional quarterfinal game. Buckeye beat Parma (42-6) last week to end the regular season with eight wins in nine games. Franklin says their game plan doesn’t call for many passes. “They run the ball really well. They execute so well offensively,” he told Swankonsports.com on Wednesday, “They are a run first, pass second team. They have a quarterback with a 1,500 yard season under his belt and a tailback that has almost as many yards. So, we have to contain that and allow our offense to be on the field more.” Sandusky has an explosive offense led by running back Terion Stewart, Franklin says they have to get them the ball. “They are more of a gap scheme offense. They pull their guard and tackle and guard and what we call a U-back. So, that scheme is a little bit different for us for us to see. The tempo and the way they run that offense. It is a clock control scheme,” said Franklin. Sandusky Building For Postseason Sandusky finishes up play in the Lake Division of the Sandusky Bay Conference with a game at home against next door neighbor Sandusky Perkins on Friday night. The Blue Streaks are assured of a berth in the division III playoffs. They lost last week (35-26) at Bellevue in a Lake Division game ending any hope of sharing the division title. Coach Mike Franklin says Bellevue made some big plays, especially Caleb Marshall, and they hurt themselves with mistakes. “It was a great football game. It was a great, hard hitting football game, very playoff like with the hitting, there is no doubt about it. They needed to win to get in and they definitely brought it. I think they ran the ball pretty well. They have a great receiver. The big guy went up and made three tremendous catches. It almost reminded me of the guys from Mansfield, except this guy is 6’6”. We didn’t have answer for that. We moved the ball well on offense. We had a bad snap on a punt that cost us a touchdown. So, there were a lot of pieces that went on, but Bellevue is a good football team and they should be in the playoffs,” said Franklin. Injuries have clearly been an issue for the Blue Streaks this season, but Franklin says they finally are getting a little healthier. “Well, Terion (Stewart) hasn’t really been healthy, our tailback. Even against Norwalk he was gimpy. It is tough with that ankle injury to get him healthy. We have really limited his carries and things of that nature. Then obviously, our biggest loss was our quarterback against Fremont Ross,” he told Swankonsports.com on Wednesday, “He was our returning starting quarterback. We did a lot of dynamic things with him. Everybody has to step up and step in. We were without our starting center the last two weeks. It is that time of year. You have to have people step in and we have had some guys do that. We are getting close to full tilt except our quarterback is still out.” Sandusky (6-3,2-2) plays host to the Perkins Pirates (3-6,0-4) on Friday night. Perkins fell to Tiffin Columbian (47-21) last week. Franklin says they pose some problems for his team. “I thought they played really well against Tiffin last week. Tiffin burns them on maybe three long touchdown passes. I thought Perkins stepped up and played really good defense. They have a dynamic quarterback that can really run. They even went to some wildcat with their big boy. So, you never know what to expect on game 10, especially against a rival like Perkins,” he said. Sandusky With Big Game at Bellevue Sandusky trails “SBC” lake Division Leader Norwalk by a game and they play at Bellevue in a crucial game on Friday night. A win keeps them in the race, a loss could eliminate them from a chance to share the title this fall. They beat Clyde (34-21) last week in a division game. Coach Mike Franklin says their defense made a couple of big plays in the game. “We scored as many points on defense as we did offense. I have to give them all of the credit. Our defense came up big with turnovers and scores, so we really thrived off our defense on Friday night,” said Franklin. The defense also returned a fumble for a score. Franklin says those turnovers can be big momentum shifters. “Especially in high school football because it is so emotional. They came out and got the ball first in the second half and within three plays we have a pick six. We really took over the momentum in the second half,” he said. Sandusky (6-2,2-1), #5 in the Swankonsports.com football coaches poll in the large school division, plays at the Bellevue Athletic Field against the Redmen on Friday night. Bellevue (5-3,1-2) suffered a tough loss last week when Columbian kicked a field goal in the fourth quarter and beat them (16-14) in a division game. Franklin says the Redmen are pretty darn good and that is on both sides of the football. “Tiffin is one of the better teams in our region and they played them right down to the wire. They are another team very similar to Clyde. They want to control the time of possession and keep the offense off the field,” he told Swankonsports.com on Wednesday, “They do a really good job with it with their offense, especially their quarterback. On defense, I think they have one of the hardest hitters in the league in number 21.” Bellevue does like to chew up some clock if they can. Franklin says they have to get off the field on third down. “They are not afraid to play four downs. They get in a fourth and short they are not afraid to come back out and come right at you if their feel they have the momentum. Third down is a critical down, we have to keep them in their and long,” he said. Sandusky Wants the Ball in its Hands Sandusky hosts Clyde on Friday night in yet another toss up in the Lake Division of the Sandusky Bay Conference, It is a must win for both because the loser likely falls out of contention for the league title. Last week, Norwalk, the division leader, beat Sandusky (37-20) in a division game. Blue Streaks coach Mike Franklin says the Truckers controlled the point of attack. “We had a hard time to be honest. They won the battle up front. They are big, fast, and strong. I think they surprised us with home fast they were and we just weren’t able to get stops. They kept us kind of pinned down,” he said. Franklin says Norwalk’s outstanding kicker Garrison Smith really has an impact on the game. “I’ll tell you what as soon as they get the ball to the 50-yard line, you are, well, they have a chance. He could have hit it from 60 without a problem because he had some wind behind him,” he told Swankonsports.com on Thursday, “They have a heck of a kicker. That is a potent weapon in high school football. All you have to do is get over that 40-yard line and a least you are going to get three points.” Sandusky (5-2,1-1), #5 in the Swankonsports.com football coaches poll in the large school division, entertains Clyde (5-2,1-1) on Friday night. Clyde lost (49-42) to Tiffin Columbian last Friday. Franklin says the Fliers feature an power running game and on defense they are just very good. “I’ll tell you offensively they just grind the ball down the field. They are not afraid to go for it on fourth down. They give themselves four downs to go for it. Then defensively, they play sound defense. They have played sound defense for years and not much changes. They make you earn your points,” said Franklin. The Sandusky coach feels this will be a battle for time of possession and he wants his offense on the field. “We are going to have to be able to keep our defense off the field. I felt Norwalk did a great job of that, they grinded out some drives along with big plays. We have a few guys going both ways, so we have to find a way to get some of those guys off the field and keep our offense rolling,” he said. Sandusky Wants Revenge In one of the biggest games in the area on Friday night, the Sandusky Blue Streaks head for Norwalk and a matchup against the Truckers in play in the rough and tumble Lake Division of the Sandusky Bay Conference. Both teams won their openers in division play last week. Norwalk beat Sandusky twice last season, once in the division III regional final, the Blue Streaks remember that. Last week, Sandusky nipped Tiffin Columbian (33-26) to start division play on the right foot. Coach Mike Franklin says they took advantage of their opportunities. “We played really well except for the penalties that we really need to clean up. We executed a lot of good football. We took advantage of some of their miscues and were able to turn those into points,” he said. Terion Stewart, the Blue Streak running back, might be the best player in this area. Franklin says he has not been at full strength. “We are very fortunate. He has the heart of a lion. He has been banged up all year. He has been struggling with his ankle. He actually went out for about a quarter against Tiffin Columbian and was able to come back with a touchdown to seal the game. He has been awfully strong for us,” said Franklin. Sandusky (5-1,1-0), #3 in the Swankonsports.com football coaches poll in the large school division, is at Norwalk (5-1,1-0), #2 in our poll. The Truckers thumped Bellevue (45-21) last week. Franklin says Norwalk is just very good. “They are just as good as last year. They have reloaded really well. Very impressed with their quarterback, he just gets better and better each week. Obviously, they have a dominate offensive tackle that can go both ways. They do multiple types of things on offense. They just play sound defense, very similar to us,” he said. Norwalk punished Sandusky in the regular season last year and beat them by a field goal in the playoffs. Franklin says you can’t turn it over if you expect to win this game. “It will come down to turnovers when you have that type of game and field position. We have played a lot of field position this year,” he told Swankonsports.com on Thursday, “We have buried opponents deep quite a bit of the year with special teams. Really looking forward to the challenge. It’s a rematch from last year’s regional game. We are still not really happy about that game.” Published 10/11/19 © Swankonsports.com Check out our scoreboard at www.swankonsportshosting247.comIt’s updated every five minutes on Friday night |

Sandusky Must Handle Tiffin Pressure Sandusky kicks off play in the Bay Division of the Sandusky Bay Conference by host the Tiffin Columbian Tornadoes on Friday night at Cedar Point Stadium. They lost for the first time this year last week to Mansfield Senior (21-14) in a non-conference game. Coach Mike Franklin says the Tygers are very good, but they didn’t help by shooting themselves in the foot repeatedly. “Mansfield is a good football team. There is no doubt about it. We knew they were going to be good. There are just as physical. They had a little bit more team speed. We had 17 penalties. We played a bunch of undisciplined football,” he told Swankonsports.com on Wednesday, “We didn’t get much going offensively. We played really good defense, but number 8 for them is a superstar. He made three huge catches that really hurt us.” Sandusky (4-1,0-0), #4 in the Swankonsports.com football coaches poll in the large school division, plays at home against Tiffin Columbian (5-0,0-0), #2 in our poll, on Friday night in one of three key games on the first week of division play. Perkins at Clyde and Bellevue hosts Norwalk. Franklin says Columbian has a lot of good players and they know how to use them. “They are well coached. They do a lot of different things. They are very similar to last year. They use their talent exactly how it should be used,” he said. On defense, Franklin says the Tornadoes are going to come after them with a lot of pressure. “They are extremely fast. They run a 3-4 pressure defense. They have 57 blitzes, so it is difficult to prepare for all of that,” said Franklin. When you face a defense that blitzes a lot Franklin says there are opportunities to make some big plays. “You live and die by the sword with that kind of stuff. They have been living by it so far. We are preparing for it the best we can. We look forward to it,” he said. Sandusky Locks Horns with Mansfield Senior You would be hard pressed to find two better football teams in North Central Ohio than Sandusky and Mansfield Senior and they collide in a non-conference game on Friday night at Arlin Field in Mansfield. They are the top two teams in our Swankonsports.com football coaches poll in the large school division. Mansfield Senior is #1 and the Blue Streaks are #2. Sandusky’s starting quarterback Shonsai Aaron was out last week with a knee injury, but the Streaks still beat Ashland (46-35) in a non-conference game. Running back Terion Stewart had his best day of the season with 284 yards rushing and four scores. Coach Mike Franklin says his boys were on point. “We lost our starting quarterback and I think our backup came in an did a great job. Our running game is starting to get into high gear, so I can’t complain. Ashland scored some points there at the end of the game against our second team, but all in all we are happy with how we preformed,” said Franklin. Aaron will not play this week against Mansfield Senior, but Franklin says his replacement, J.J. Henry was very good. “We have two quarterbacks that can step in. We utilized one last week and he is more of our runner and our read (option) guy, so I thought he did a fantastic job of coming in. He had another touchdown run and threw a touchdown pass. So, he stepped in and did a great job,” he said. Sandusky (4-0) makes the trip down State Route 13 to Mansfield to face the Tygers (4-0) on Friday. Mansfield Senior belted West Holmes (42-7) in an Ohio Cardinal Conference game last week. Franklin says the Tygers have the whole package. “They have size and speed. They are very big, they are very fast. Obviously, they have some dominating football players based on where they are going to college. It is one the best teams they have had in a while,” he said. When it comes to keys to a win Friday night, Franklin feels discipline will be a big part of it. “The typical things, turnovers, field position. I think discipline is going to play a big part of it as far as keeping your mind in the game. It is a big game. I’m sure it is going to be an electric atmosphere. Discipline, and not just our talking and penalties, but in respect to getting your mind right back to the next play,” said Franklin. Sandusky to be Pressed by Ashland Sandusky, off to a great start to the season, hosts Ashland in a non-conference game between big schools on Friday night at Cedar Point Stadium. The Blue Streaks played Fremont Ross on Saturday afternoon and had a big second half in beating the Little Giants (42-7) to continue their good play. Coach Mike Franklin says once they got in gear they didn’t look back. “We started out a little rough. It has been a long time since we played a game on Saturday. The second half we kind of took control,” he said. Sandusky (3-0), #2 in the Swankonsports.com football coaches poll in the large school division, is at home for Ashland (0-3) on Friday night. Franklin says the Arrows may be winless, but they are still very dangerous. “The definitely haven’t played any bums. Of all the teams they have played they have only lost one football game. They bring in their spread offense like they always have. We haven’t seen anything like that this year,” he told Swankonsports.com on Thursday, “It takes a lot of time to get prepared for it. Up front defensively they are fast. We are going to have our work cut out for us. They don’t play like an 0-3 team.” With the kind of offense Ashland runs they are going to put you in one on one situations. Franklin says they feel a key to is get pressure on the quarterback. “They are going to make plays, there is no doubt about it. You just hope you practice with the right guys in the right situations and your coverage is solid. The other piece of it is trying to get pressure on the quarterback and not letting him get loose. It has been very difficult on film to see people get pressure on him. So, one of our goals is to get pressure on the quarterback,” said Franklin. Sandusky Plays Multiple Holland Springfield Sandusky, part of the very good Lake Division of the Sandusky Bay Conference, is at home at Cedar Point field, for Holland Springfield in a non-conference game on Friday night in week two action. They railed to beat Parma Padua (20-14) in overtime last week when quarterback Shonsai Aaron took it in to get the win. Coach Mike Franklin says they just had to find a way. “It was a heck of a game. There was great defense. There was no scoring with seven minutes left in the game. In was back and forth. We were able to push it into overtime with a late drive. We got an interception in overtime and in two plays we were able to get it in the end zone. It was a great learning experience for our guys,” said Franklin. The Blue Streaks have some big playmakers on their roster again this season. Franklin says they responded well last week when things got tough. “You definitely have to have players. You have to have them buy into your program. You have to understand that adversity is going to strike and it’s how do we respond? We got hit a couple of times with adversity and I think our kids responded very well,” he said. Springfield is coming off a (48-0) pasting at the hands of powerhouse Toledo Central Catholic last week. Franklin says they know who Central Catholic is and they also know that Springfield is going to be a challenge for them. “I think 90 percent of the teams in Ohio would lose to Central Catholic, so you can throw that number out the door and we understand that. They are a solid football team,” he told Swankonsports.com on Thursday, “They have been year in and year out for the past several years. It’s getting our guys to understand that 48-0 means nothing and I think they do. They bring a ton of athleticism. They are well coached and we have our work cut out for sure.” Franklin says they will be forced to defend an offense that will show a lot of things and can make plays. “They are kind of a mixture. They will have a tight end, they won’t have a tight end, they will be a spread, so you get quite a bit. Traditionally they were a spread team. Now, there are so many formations and motions, now they are just trying to make a defense lineup incorrectly and take advantage of it. I think they do a good job of that,” said Franklin. Sandusky Featuring Some Veteran Players Sandusky is another of the very strong teams in the Lake Division of the Sandusky Bay Conference and they are going to be a factor in that conference race this year. In 2018, they lost to fellow division member Norwalk in the division three regional final. Coach Mike Franklin says they have the kind of personnel that can lead to another excellent season. “We have some players from last year returning that we’re very excited about, some older, some veteran guys. Some teams do the two scrimmages, we opt to do three scrimmages so we are not banging up against each other all of the time,” he told Swankonsports.com on Thursday, “It kind of gives some down time to get in the weight room the next day and so forth. I think we are progressing. I think we are ahead of where we were last year, but time will tell.” Running back Terion Stewart was our Swankonsports.com big school offensive player of the year last and the MVP of the “SBC” Lake. He rushed for over 2,000 yards and more than 50 TD’s. He’s back and Franklin says they are glad to have him. “Terion Stewart will be a three year starter for us this year. He will be back for us and our quarterback is back in Shonsai Aaron. So, our backfield is back intact. We are very excited to have Terion back and some our other key returners,” he said. They open the season with a game at Parma Padua Franciscan on Friday night. Franklin describes the teams as similar on both sides, which should lead to a pretty competitive contest. “Padua is a catholic school south of Cleveland. On film, they really run the same defense and a similar offense that we do. Their skill level is similar to ours. Their size is similar to ours. It really should be an interesting game,” he said. Sandusky and Norwalk, Round Two Sandusky and Norwalk, two schools out of the Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division, square off in the division three regional final on Friday at First National Bank Stadium at the Bellevue Athletic Field. Of course, it is the second meeting this year between the two schools. The Truckers won the regular season game (52-35) on October 5. Now, last week, the Blue Streaks (8-4) played perhaps their best game of the season together in walloping Lexington (56-12) in a second round playoff game. Coach Mike Franklin says they put everything together, leading (28-0) after the first quarter. “We had everything going. We scored in all three phases. We got off to an amazing start. I couldn’t be more proud of the kids. We were able to get them to turn over the football, two defensive scores, fumble recoveries for touchdowns. We opened the game with a kickoff return for a touchdown and it was history from there,” said Franklin. Franklin says they are still striving to get better and he believes they can turn the tables on the Truckers. “We took advantage of what we were able to last week. You don’t want the kids to be too up. We are playing a team that beat us during the regular season. Time has told us it is tough to beat a team twice is a season and that is what we are thinking,” he said. In that first matchup with Norwalk, Truckers running back Trevon Raymore rushed for more than 400 yards, a school record. Franklin says better defense is key, but they have to keep the ball away from Norwalk too. “We did not play very good defense obviously. Their running back had more than 400 yards rushing, I think. That is never a good outcome. We think we have gotten better on defense,” he told Swankonsports.com on Wednesday, “We have to continue to move the football. We have really struggled all year, every time we look at the stats, the other team has more time of possession as we have. We score quick, which doesn’t hurt, but I think we need to start winning the time of possession.” Sandusky’s running back ain’t too bad either. Terion Stewart is the media’s choice as Northwest District division three offensive player of the year. He has 2,640 yard rushing. Raymore has more than 2,000 yards himself. Both have rushed for more than 20 scores. Sandusky is kind in a similar situation to what is was last year. They had beaten Clyde (42-28) in a regular season game, but the Fliers beat them (35-0) in the playoffs. The Blue Streaks would be hoping for a similar type turnaround. Franklin thinks both teams are different than they were more than a month ago. He says defense is going to tell the story. “Last year we played a team and we played them in the playoffs and it was kind of a quick turnover. This year it has been a few weeks and we are both kind of doing some different things on both sides of the ball. So, it is almost like a new football game. It is going to come down to can they stop us and can we stop them. I really think that is going to be one of the keys on Friday,” said Franklin. Sandusky Faces Streaking Lexington Sandusky, of the Lake Division of the Sandusky Bay Conference, will play Lexington of the Ohio Cardinal Conference, in a division three regional semifinal at Willard High School on Friday night. It is a game between two teams that are playing their best football right now. Last week, Sandusky tailback Terion Stewart rushed for 288 yards as the Blue Streaks demolished Bay Village (34-14) in a first round game. Stewart, a junior, is already Sandusky’s all time leading rusher and has over 2,500 yards this year alone and 3,500 for his career. Coach Mike Franklin says they played a lot of good football last week. “We played well in a lot of different phases. We turned the ball over three times, which obviously we are not going to be able to do this week. I thought we moved the football well on offense and when we needed to we got stops on defense. We have been up and down all year and hopefully we are playing the best ball of the year,” said Franklin. At times this year, Sandusky has struggled stopping the run against the other good teams in their league. Franklin says they must get to the ball carrier and get him to the ground this week. “Obviously, it is going to come down to tackling. Going against Lexington they are going to have the big guy carrying the football. We have to be able to tackle really well and be assignment sound,” he said. Sandusky (7-4) plays Lexington (7-4) on Friday night. The Minutmen beat Tiffin Columbian, also of the Lake Division (31-21) last week. Franklin is impressed by the Minuteman defense, especially Ohio State recruit Cade Stover. “They have a very good defense. They have gotten better throughout the year. They have gotten better at defense and a standout player obviously that is able to hawk the ball down rather well. So, we have to try and slow his feet down and stop their aggressiveness. They are hard nosed. On defense, we have to make sure we are where we are supposed to be and tackle well,” said Franklin. Stover is a versatile player and Franklin says they can not allow him to run feely on defense. “He lines up in some different positions, but as good as he is and as fast as he is they could probably line him up on the practice field and he would still be able to make tackles. So, he is a great player. We faced him two years ago and here he is still going. You have to have eyes on him and you have to find ways to make him have to think,” he said. Lexington beat Sandusky (30-19) two years at this level of the playoffs. Franklin believes they were not ready to play two years ago and he vows not to let that happen again. “I think some of us went into that game underestimating them and you can’t do that at any time, especially the playoffs. So, this year we know that they are good and they are on the upswing,” he told Swankonsports.com on Tuesday, “They have won six straight football games. When you start out 1-4 and you are in the second round of the playoffs who are doing something right. They are a good football team, fast, aggressive. Our guys don’t want to quit and I am sure theirs don’t. We have been through a lot this year and we think we are in the right frame of mind.” Published 11/07/18 © Swankonsports.com Like Swankonsports.com on Facebook Follow us on Twitter at @swankonsports “Out of Bounds” airs live every Friday from 10 PM to midnight Click on the listen line at the top of the home page for audio |

Sandusky Meets Bay in the Playoffs Sandusky, one of four teams from the Lake Division of the Sandusky Bay Conference to make the division three playoffs, plays at Bay Village Bay on Friday night in a first round game. The Streaks, who began the season with five straight wins, broke a four game losing streak with a (43-14) win over rival Perkins last week. Coach Mike Franklin calls it a big win for them. “It is a rivalry game. They are right across the street and it kind of meant a lot to us to get out there and play really well after the four weeks when we played some halfway decent football. We get to play week 11 and that is always a bonus,” he said. Terion Stewart leads the area in rushing yards and touchdowns this season. He has more than 2,500 yards and has scored more than 30 times. However, Franklin felt a big key last week was to get the ball to other kids, who then made plays. “We played a little bit more disciplined football. We had a couple of issues we had to take care up outside the lines. I think that was very beneficial,” he told Swankonsports.com on Thursday, “We got the ball into more people’s hands. Everyone keys on our tailback Terion (Stewart) and we were able to the get the ball in other people’s hands.” Sandusky (6-4) visits Bay Village Bay (8-2) on Friday night for a first round game with the Rockets. Bay beat Valley Forge (14-13) last week to put a two game losing streak to an end. They have won four games by a touchdown or less this season. Franklin says they run it well and that is something the Blue Streaks have not defended well in the second half of the season. “This is their fifth straight year in the playoffs and they lost last year to Toledo Central Catholic in the regional finals. They are a good football team, they are 8-2, they play in a solid league. They play really good defense. They like to run the football, which we struggled with here at the end of the year. So, we have our hands full,” said Franklin. When it comes to what the Rockets try and do, Franklin says they do some similar things that other teams in their league, or division if you will, have done this fall. “They do a lot of things like Bellevue does. They pull guys a little bit more than Bellevue. They like to run the football, Clyde likes to run the football quite a bit. I think they are similar to those teams, getting the ball to their tight end, like Perkins did. There are a lot of tangibles that we have seen, but we have to be prepared for it,” he said. Again it is Stop the Run for Sandusky Sandusky has to stop the bleeding. After winning 19 straight regular season games, they have lost the last two weeks. They play another tough one in the Lake Division of the Sandusky Bay Conference on Friday night as they travel to Clyde to meet the Fliers. Last Friday, Norwalk beat the Blue Streaks (52-35) in a Lake Division game. Coach Mike Franklin says is was a shootout and the Truckers made a couple of big plays right at the end of the first half that gave them a big boost. “It was a track meet for a while there is no doubt about that. I think the killer for us was they scored 10 points with 58 seconds left in the second quarter. That was high school athletics those types of things are definitely momentum swings. They have a great tailback, we have a great tailback, and they were both hard to stop. I think their tailback was a huge difference in the football game,” said Franklin. Trevon Raymore had 407 yards rushing for Norwalk last week against Sandusky, a school record. Sandusky’s Terion Stewart has more than 200 for the Streaks. Sandusky (5-2,0-2) is down at Clyde (5-2,2-0), #3 in the Swankonsports.com football coaches poll in the large school division, on Friday night. Franklin says both teams are a little young, but really that is not a factor anymore. “They are a great football team. They are solid just about every position. By this time of the year you really can’t say you are a young football team anymore because you have got seven games under your belt,” he told Swankonsports.com on Thursday, “We are in the same boat. We are starting seven juniors and a freshman on defense. We are very young on the offensive side too. We you get this late in the season there is nothing like being young, you have to be seasoned by this time.” The last two weeks, Tiffin Columbian and Norwalk have eaten the Blue Streaks defense up with their run games. Franklin says that can’t happen on Friday night. “We have to stop the run game. We have really struggled the last couple of weeks with the run. We have worked hard on it. They are a run heavy football team. Being able to have better field position. Watching their games and our games field position is critical. It is tough calling plays from either side when you are on your own 10 yard line starting out drives. It is going to be the first cool game, so turnovers can be a key also,” he said. Run Defense Going to be Big for Sandusky Sandusky had not lost a regular season game since the middle of the 2016 season until last week when Tiffin Columbian ruffed them up and now it is time to get better. They host Norwalk, who has not allowed a point to be scored on them in three weeks, Friday night in a Lake Division game in the Sandusky Bay Conference. Tiffin drilled the Blue Streaks (37-7) last week and Sandusky coach Mike Franklin say they just didn’t play well at all in that game. “We didn’t play very well at all by any stretch of the imagination. It was us for sure not executing a lot of things. It as also a very good Tiffin football team. We made a lot of mistakes in a lot of areas,” said Franklin. Franklin adds they did handle adversity well last week. “I was not very happy with how we reacted in that loss during the game. We had a lot to learn. We are not used to losing. We have a lot of young players that are not used to losing,” he told Swankonsports.com on Thursday, “So, we had to make a lot of corrections this week. We have a lot of pieces to fill. We have a couple of guys out this week. We are going to see what our team is made of.” Sandusky (5-1,0-1), #5 in the Swankonsports.com football coaches poll in the large school division, is at home for Norwalk (5-1,1-0), #3 in our poll, on Friday night. The Truckers have won their last four games, three by shutouts, including (7-0) last week over rival Bellevue. Franklin says Norwalk running back Treyvon Raymone is very good. He says he can go the distance at any time. “He did a number on us last year. He is tough to bring down and he is fast. We haven’t seen a lot of backs this year that if they break a tackle they will take it 60, 70, 80 yards. It is going to be a challenge for us,” said Franklin. When it comes to the defense, Franklin says there are reasons they are hard to score on. “They are big, strong, fast and fly to the football. I think that helps,” he said. If they are going to win this one, Franklin says they must do a better job defending the run. “We have to keep them off the field. Last week, Tiffin ran the ball all over us and kept our offense off the field and we could never really get it going. We have to stop their run game. We have to be able to throw the football. It’s plain and simple,” said Franklin.
