Fairless Can Win it

Fairless can earn no less than a share of the title in the Principal’s Athletic Conference with a win at Wooster Triway on Friday night.

They lead Triway and Akron Manchester by game going into this week.  They beat Manchester (41-40) in a shootout last week.

They are unbeaten on the season (8-0,5-0) and coach A.J. Sarbaugh says they have had great leadership and the kids are comfortable in the system they are in.  “I think we have had really good senior leadership and we have a lot of experience back.  Last year, we had a winning record, which was only the third time since 2000 and a lot of those kids are back.  They have worked really hard this off season,” he told Swankonsports.com on Tuesday afternoon, “It’s my fourth year, so we really haven’t changed a whole lot offensively or defensively, so I think our kids are comfortable and they play really fast in what they do and their really enjoy just playing together.  I think those things right there have been a huge part of our success this year.”

Triway (5-1,4-1) beat Northwest (42-26) last week to remain a game back.

Sarbaugh says they must contain Titans quarterback Zach Miller.  “They have a very good quarterback.  He is a three year starter, three sport athlete, definitely a leader of their team.  He can run or throw.  I think their kids really rally behind him and they go as he goes,” he said.

Sarbaugh adds they must make Miller uncomfortable in the pocket.  “We want to pressure him, we want to drop a lot of people, we want to give him different looks, so he is uncomfortable in the pocket and he doesn’t know what coverage we are in.  So, there are a lot of different ways that you can do that, but we don’t want him to be comfortable where he knows where he wants to throw the ball,” he said.

It is huge game for both teams, but Sarbaugh says they can’t approach this game any differently than they have all year.  “We have preached with our kids that we just want to get better every day.  We want our focus to remain on Fairless because regardless of who we play it is about us and our preparation, how hard we play, and the discipline that we play with.  If we take care of Fairless and play well on offense, defense and special teams, not a lot of penalties and don’t turn the ball over then we think we will put ourselves in a position to be successful,” said Sarbaugh.
